Neil Young is OVERRATED. His stuff is easy to play and he is nothing special as a guitar player. He's a great songwriter and vocalist for sure.

gotta disagree with you on Neil, toker. What Neil play may not pass as great technically, but like our buddy, Keith, he is a master at what he plays. NOBODY sounds like Neil. Nobody.

Tod- he does have his own style, but frankly, I am not that impressed with him as a guitar player. Pretty simple stuff and very easy to play. Don't get me wrong, I like his music.

UNDERRATED- Chuck Berry and Elvis Presley's guitarist.

Yeah, "Live Rust" and "Weld"... they're just full of easy-to-play guitar lines. Neil's one of the few players who can hold a 20,000 arena mesmerized by his guitarwork throughout the song.

Have a listen to "Down by the River" or "Hey Hey, My My"

Some people mentioned Mike Campbell and Lindsay Buckingham. Those are two excellent choices. Buckingham especially is fantastic and has a very unique style among rock guitarists.

ANy other Rossington/ Medlocke fans out there besides me ? I think they're a great "speedy" front line.

Rory Gallagher and Mike Campbell. Two different styles but two great guitar slingers for sure!

What about, and I may get lynched for this, Noel Gallagher from Oasis? He's pretty good IMO.

Most underrated: Ron Wood, if he is ok. Most overrated: Ron Wood in the last 8 years, when he is touring with the Stones.

The last 8 years includes the Forty Licks tour... Keith and Ronnie as a "guitar front line" never played better live music in their life than on the 40 Licks Tour.

I am a big fan of Lindsey Buckingham. he is confusing though: a more unlikeabler fellow I have rarely seen. he is flatout bizarre in his conceitedness and self importance. But I love his playing, his arrangments and production of especially electric guitars. I have all three of his solo albums, and there is some good stuff. next to some bad stuff winking smiley)
Mike Campbell is one of the best choices here. He is perfect for this thread. truly an underrated guitarrist hero. One ALWAYS forgets about him; yet he is so damn good. A real rock guitarrist who does not cheat. Plus he co wrote "The Boys of Summer" one alltime great song.
