For the love of all that is holy, WHAT IS THE RIFF AT 15:50?

Like this. Could also be an open g string involved. Insignificant though. Hope this helps.

Thanks, haha I meant it sounds familiar. Is this the only time he played it or is it from something else?

They have been playing these kind of lines throughout their entire career.

It’s definitely a riff he’s working out, and it sounds familiar. Like from a song, maybe a live rendition. I’m trying to figure out if I only know it from this tape or if I’ve indeed heard it elsewhere. I’m starting to think I’ve just heard it here but it grabbed my attention because it sounds like a song. Guess that’s just a sign of a memorable riff.

The only song that I can relate to at this point is "Live with Me". They didn't play it in 1792 I believe. My Stones vocabulary is very limited.

I was also thinking it’s sort of like how he changed up Satisfaction. Or a reverse version of Sweet Black Angel!

Haha I really just think it’s a familiar sounding riff, and that’s all

Makes me wonder which songs they did play in 1792. It's been a while since then, after all ... winking smiley

Retired Dog said more tape exists and this is only a fraction of it. I believe he said somebody from the studio has the tapes and let go of part of it for whatever reason. Not sure about your other questions.

considering how they were performing in 1972 (and 1973) what is there to rehearse? What, Mick Taylor noodling more? Or playing JJF and SFM even faster!!!??

What was there to rehearse was that they thought they could do better, they thought the last couple shows were a bit lackluster and they missed cues. Then, they wanted to add rarities to the setlist to be filmed in Houston and Fort Worth which resulted in Dead Flowers, Don't Lie to Me and Sweet Black Angel.

The unfortunate thing is that they rehearsed for 8 hours, and we get two hours of noodling.

I personally LOVE this set and find it fascinating. The dirty old blues numbers, some great lead playing by Richards, some riffs I which sound familiar, but I can't place.

Dallas Rehearsal Video

Taylor playing a black SG is interesting.

twelve to Twenty years ago I worked in a small convenience store and I amused myself of producing mix tapes at home and playing them in the store for the customers and me to enjoy. Stones, Muddy, Chester Burnett, Oasis, Little Walter, Peter Tosh, Bob Marley, Springsteen, Slim Harpo, Dylan, The Band, Faces, Gram Parsons and Max Romeo were among the stuff I had on 'em, about 10 different tapes. People stopped in their trax and listened and hung around just to enjoy the music. The most common question I recieved was "Which radio station is this"? grinning smiley

Anyway I remember having Key To The Highway from Dallas on it and it always brought a smile to my face, there's one particular lick which I think is Keith which I really loved about 2 thirds into the song and it just mad ya wanna dance while filling up the cigarettes shelves.

The rest of the bootleg (think it was Swingin' Pig) was so-so but that KTTH was GREAT! smileys with beer
