This album is recorded on July 5, 1969 at a free concert in Hyde Park, London. Because it is a famous performance, it is a performance that has discharged many collector's items so far, but all of them contain some kind of problem, and the sound source and video are so complicated in terms of cutting and editing that there has been no title that can be considered a definitive album so far. This work can be said to be the definitive album in both content and sound quality for the first time, and I think it will be the title that comes closest to the whole picture of the day.

Regardless of whether it is an official or a collector's item, there are a number of problems with the sound sources and videos that have already been released. The concert was recorded by a film crew from Granada TV, but only about half of the performance scenes were used in the 53-minute video due to flaws in the filming. It has been officially released many times in the past, but many of them have a slow pitch. The soundboard sound source broadcast on FM was also incomplete and monaural. There are some good audience recordings, but they are only halfway through the concert. Many of the documentaries used in the documentary were edited, and interviews were covered. Furthermore, the 2006 Blu-ray bonus footage included B-roll footage, but most of it was without sound. As you can see, all of them were half-baked, and all of them had some kind of problem.

The CD portion of this work is recorded in real stereo, with some exceptions. The sound quality of the FM sound source, which was harsh, has been dramatically improved. And the concert is recorded as full as possible and in the order of the songs. "Love In Vain" is also recorded in completely real stereo sound source with no interviews for guitar solos. And "Satisfaction" -- I want you to actually listen to it. In the first place, whether it was partially or in its entirety, there was no Hyde Park that sounded so good.

The DVD portion of this work is mainly produced with the aim of reconstructing the video and sound material with the correct pitch and song order so that it can be enjoyed as a "live video". Recorded with smooth video using AI frame completion technology. Finely corrected the parts where the sound did not match the performance scene as much as possible. "I'm Yours And I'm Hers," "Tonk Women," "Midnight Rambler," and "Satisfaction" are longer than previous recordings. We make the most of B-roll and news footage, and mainly record angles that are different from the official ones. Compared to the official, which was completely centered on Mick, it is mainly used from an angle where you can see the movements of the other members. "Song of Pity for the Devil" is recorded completely until the end of the song for the first time. Even after the end of the performance of "Song of Pity for the Devil", the scene of the venue is recorded endlessly ("Down Home Girl", which was not included in the main story, is included in the BGM). In addition, it is a well-known story that in the first half of the film, half of the screen is burned yellow due to poor exposure of the camera on the lower side of the stage, but this has also been corrected to make it look as natural as possible.

Hyde Park was famous for its "coarse performances," but if you watch it again with the right pitch, good sound quality, and the right balance, you can see that the performance itself was a lively performance. Keith's guitar is out of tune, and Mick Taylor, who is 100% modest and hesitant to Keith. If you listen to the Mr./Ms. of the two guitars in real stereo of this album, you can see the difference. More than half a century has passed since the concert, and this work has been recorded with content and sound quality that can be said to be the definitive album in terms of sound and video. A press board with beautiful picture disc specifications that is permanently preserved.

Basically they sound like some Frisco hippie bands at the time, Big Brother or something - or, say, Blind Faith back home - jamming through the set (totally wild set list by today's standards),

- Doxa

A bit of my brain is telling me that the idea of the free show came about because Blind Faith had done their debut show at the same place about 2 weeks prior.....

Yeah, I can imagine very well that when Mick was watching Blind Faith playing there he not just picked up the idea of playing there, but also the kind of idea of how a contemporary rock and roll gig musically would go like. The Stones had been out of the world of live performances for a long time (two years was a life time back then), and that surely was one way to go. Mick, like always, had an ear and eye for what's going on.

So in a way the Hyde Park gig turned out to be a one-time experiment of the Stones following trends at the time: the sort of hippie thing, musically not that disciplined free-going event. So I think it is wrong to judge the gig by the standards they would create later for and during the American tour: the sort of professionalism and discipline of a 'modern' rock show (a template accomplished during that tour). That's anachronistic. They didn't aim to anything like that then at Hyde Park. And that's why I cherish the park gig as an unique moment in the history of a living and breathing band. They did there something they had never done before and never will do again.

Far out, man.

You can interpret that concert in any direction. That's what makes it special, very good or promising, or maybe even bad.

Has anybody had the chance to listen to the audio portion of the Mayflower release?

If you look at audience members especially towards the start of the film you can see where AI has been used to create almost cartoon-like figures

Mick's white pullover whatever that thing is, is probably one of his worst outfit choices ever. He best choice was taking it off.

I have a recollection that the "smock" - aka short white dress - was actually intended for Sammy Davis Jnr, and that he (Sammy) was might pissed off that Jagger had hi-jacked it.

Does anyone recall that, or another version?

(SOUNDBITE OF CROWD CHEERING FROM ARCHIVED CONCERT RECORDING)

REEVES: Jagger transfixed the crowd the moment he walked out. Philip Norman again.

NORMAN: Mick was wearing this extraordinary, white, fluffy garment which
looked like a little girl's party dress. It actually was a suit. It had
really been made for Sammy Davis Jr., and Mick had borrowed it.

REEVES: Jagger began by remembering Jones.

JAGGER: OK, now listen. Now, will you just cool it just for a minute - because I really would like to say something for Brian.

REEVES: Despite interruptions, Jagger persisted.

Some observers claimed that Jagger was wearing a “dress” or even a
“little girl’s white party frock”. In fact, he was wearing a costume
inspired by the uniform of the Greek National Guard, a white
tunic-and-trousers ensemble created by the British fashion designer
Michael Fish. It came from his boutique, Mr Fish, which had opened
in 1966 at 17 Clifford Street, off Savile Row. The shop sold the outfit
at 85 guineas apiece to other customers too, including Sammy Davis Jr,
who liked it so much that he bought it in three colours (black, brown and champagne).

In the book A Prince Among Stones , you van see a picture from Mick in this white dress .
He wears it on a The White Ball from Loewenstein , before the Hyde Park show

Interesting. The text quoted by Mr Rockman is NOT the same as the text linked to on the (curious) academia.edu site. (Where did Mr Rockman's quote come from?)

Yes - they are broadly the same. One (I know not which) is a redrafting of the other. Which way round I wonder.

(See [en.wikipedia.org] for an account of the site pointed to. I'm pleased that my instincts that it was not right held good. Here's a nice quote from Wikipedia "According to the University of Oklahoma libraries, when interacting with Academia.edu, users should keep in mind that "you are not the customer," but rather "you are the product that these services seek to monetize and/or 'offer up' to advertisers," that "you might be breaking the law," even if you are uploading your own work," and finally that "there are privacy implications," because a commercial site does not follow professional standards and "may share information about you"

Thanks. Including the source ALWAYS value adds a posting!

In this case, your source is dated 2020 and the academia.edu source points to a paper at a conference in Athens in 2010.

[Again, be careful using academia.edu - the user (ie you and I and everyone using it) is the product, not the data it re-presents.]

You mean that he took it off because he didn't like it`? With that logic, Mick is a pretty awful dresser and makes bad choices, since he tends to take off clothes and even change them in every damn show...grinning smiley

But what goes for the "smock", he picked up and used it again in Hyde Park 2013 (for "Honky Tonk Women") - so at least it symbolized something to him from the 1969 concert:
