I was just told by one of my coworkers that he saw Grand Funk on their 1971 tour and they ended the show with Gimme Shelter.'

Anyone have knowledge of this?

I'd like to hear their version if one exists.

Interesting, as it is on their Survival album, a studio LP. I can't tell if that version is live or not, it fades at the end, so it's possibly a live version w/ the audience faded out before you hear them.

Yeah, they do a reasonably famous cover of it. At least one of the more well known covers, especially considering it had to have been one of the first. I like a lot of Grand Funk Railroad but I never found their cover of it all that good.

well i appreciate that they worked out there own unique version of gimme shelter but i've never really liked it

I prefer their version of The Locomotion and Some Kind of Wonderful/Can I Get a Witness.

Gimme Shelter from their 1975 live album Caught in the Act sounds pretty good to me on vinyl
