Looks pretty bleak for Glitter

This creep deserves to get what's coming to him and the firing squad sounds like a good start. Crimes against children are the worst imaginable and people like Glitter and Townsend (research my ass) who even obtain child pornography deserve lengthy jail terms, period. How people can harm and/or promote harm against innocent children is beyond any sane person. The computer age has unfortunately opened up a lot of criminal content to a lot of criminal minded people.

But there's always a silver lining: things are looking much more positive for an increasing number of eleven and twelve year old Asian girls.

In my 47 years on this earth I have seen and heard a lot of amazing things but the headline "Gary Glitter To Face Firing Squad" is one of the most bizarre in the history of mankind. What next "Mick Jagger To Donate Entire Wealth To Charity".

For your information, Townshend really was conducting research like he said. He was trying to organise a campaign to convince credit card companies like Visa and Mastercard to stop acting as financial brokers for internet child porn sites. Thanks to the publicity his case generated in 2003, both companies agreed to do this.

What prompted Townshend research into bthe area was that in 1999, his then ten year old son was surfing the net looking for sites for his age group. He typed the word "teen" into Google and guess what he pulled up? Yes, that's right - images of children being sexually abused. He told his father about this.

Prior to paying $4.99 to the Landslide child porn site, Townshend contacted both Scotland Yard and an internet watch agency specialising in figtinbg child porn. He told them what he was doing and why. He also explained that he would pass on all information he gathered to them.

After Townshend was arrested, the internet watch agency produced the e mail he had written them at the time and said that they were satisfied that he had been telling the truth about doing research.

Townshend made no secret of the act that he was researching child porn on the internet. Between 2001-2002 he wrote a series of articles on the matter and posted them on his website. Anyone reading these artices would have been in no doubt that he had seen these horrific sites.

When the police searched all seven of Townshend's computers they didn't find a single image relating to child porn. He wasn't charged with downloading it, but merely cautioned because he had broken the law. Or had he? Townshend visited the site in 1999. It didn't become illegal to pay to visit such sites in the UK until 2000. Had it been illegal then, I doubt he would have visited the site.

In short, Townshend was guilty of naivety and recklessness and poor judgement. He is not a paedophile.

Secondly, don't forget that Bill Wyman had a relationship with the 13 year old Mandy Smith. He claims he didn't sleep with her.

Also don't forget that Jagger sang of sex with a 15 year old in "Stray cat blues" (live he even preferred a 13 year old).

Also I have lately seen some Rolling Stones sticker on this very IORR board claiming the Rolling Stones are standing for various things, among them 50% rock 50% roll and under-age sex.

I didn't read bald Glitter raped the young girls. I didn't read who brought these girls to him. I didn't read how much these persons or the girls themselves were payed for their service. But I smell a lot of hypocrisy and petty morals in the posts denunciating Gary Glitter.

[edited because Jagger preferred of course 13 year olds, not 12 year olds]

F.U.C.

When the Stones played Roseland they did Stray cat Blues (as i am sure they did at a bunch of other shows that year) and as soon as they started it i was wondering how Mick would handle that line. He decided to up the age to 19--still a bit of an age gap between 19 and 60, but at least legal.

The point that needs to be reiterated is that Pete Townshend was cleared of any charges.

Let's make that fully clear, once and for all.

Yeah. Christmas AND New Years in a Vietnamese prison! Sounds positively horrid. I like his "Ghosts and Grandchildren" defense though. Sounds like we have the title to his big comeback album. My hats off to his attorney. This would definitely work in California.

I apologize if I was ignorant to the facts surrounding Townsend's arrest. But I hardly think as F.U.C the Captain states that being against child pornography is "petty morals". Fact is he has a history with child pornography and if it's escalated to direct sexual abuse it wouldn't surprise me. He is a creep, plain and simple.

Nikolai, you wrote the response I would have written, but in much better detail.

I remember reading those posts on Pete's offical webiste a full year before the police detained him and have never felt he was a pedophile. The media latched onto that story and when Pete was cleared, hardly gave any notice to it.

I mean this is just utter Bullshit. Why should crimes against children be any worse than crimes against adults or cripples or black people or Stonesfans, old or young, rich or poor, tall or small, or anybody?

Also I actually can imagine worse crime than Gary Glitter having an 11 year Asian in his bed.

You're nothing but a fool.

Very well put, Halup. Pete Townshend has all but been exonerated by both the judicial system and the general public. Naturally the media wouldn't print that because his innocence isn't such a good story. There was also a programme on British tv where they actually covered his arrest and police interview. They also nincluded the arrest of real paedophiles and their interviews. Townshend really did come across as someone who was telling the truth.

You have made a very valid point, Captain, but then again, I can see where Jackass is coming from. Crimes against children are a highly emotive issue.

Sorry for laughing, but what you've written is VERY funny. And sadly also true. I mean, Michael Jackson ....

well, he also sang in the persona of Satan on the same album and on the next album about being a rapist who'll "stick my knife right down your throat". He's also described himself in song as a "poor boy" which in itself is almost as ludicrous as the idea of him being Lucifer or a serial killer....

I think the expression is 'artistic licence'
