Keith and Ronnie's improved playing recently.
Posted by: keefriffhards ()

After watching footage from the last couple of shows I'm witnessing Keith and Ronnie's interplay at a higher level than for years, they are both playing well at the same time, something we don't hear so often.
Ronnie seems to have perfected a way of playing that covers Keith to some extent without taking anything away from Keith. It's incredible how intuitive Ronnie is especially on songs like Gimme Shelter.
The ancient art of weaving is back.

Hear you. I see it more like a band that is growing. They are getting better and better. More energy, faster and I hear some small things in the arrangements Drums, bass) that add to the whole experience. I really - have enjoyed songs I thought were dead...SMU, IORR - not to mention Angry and Mess. smiling smiley

Really? I thought IORR had improved lately. Less negative. More real despite everyone getting older.

Apart from Doxa and his Peter Pan complex, of course. He should have stayed with IORR and never gone solo. His posts on his own are just vain attempts to make kids think he's still hip. He should wear leather jackets, chains, and knives and post mature art instead.

In all seriousness, I agree with this entirely:

You only have to watch a few videos from last night's show at Metlife Stadium to see they still have talent, Keith and Ronnie are playing as well if not better than in recent years, Mick is slowing down as expected but still has it, yeah they still have great talent, especially with an energised Keith now, the first two shows were a wobble and i thought he was passed it but once again Keith is back and that is essential in my opinion for the Stones to justify touring.

Thank you. My post was below the standard that my brain tries to keep up; if there is anything in my head at all. Love , TfD. X

They’re both playing well for their respective ages. I mean, who are we to compare them against? There aren’t many, are there? Eric Clapton is -in my opinion - a better guitarist, technically, but going by recent videos, is playing in his sleep. It’s ever-so boring.

Gotta say that the mix is better than in recent years as well. Bass turned up to a more appropriate level after years of being so low in the mix. I think it lets Keith and Ronnie find a better groove with Daryl and Steve.

I agree 100%! A jagged chord from Keith, seemingly out of nowhere, will inspire me far more than watching Clapton (who at one point was the biggest influence on my own playing) achieve technical perfection while half-asleep. The thrill of live music is, for me, knowing that the wheels could have fallen off at any moment but you managed to duck-and-dive your way out of it.

Heartbreaker.
Ronnie doing a great job, Keith more focused than in years throughout this show. Mick singing great, new material seems to inspire them, this promises to be a fantastic tour now.

Full show, good quality. Keith comes to life. We can see now how sick Keith must have been at the start of this tour.

Their past. Recently.

Which is what this thread is about because they've been not quite absent in the recent past in various ways.

Keith Richards and Ron Wood are plying together for half a century, they have a unique sense for blues, rock'n'roll and rough elegance. By now the keyboard section is taking a lot of weight from their shoulders, so they can let the essence of their playing shine. At 80 and 77 this is not a shame - it is a smart solution.

I think in the last few years the sound changed a lot. The keyboards are not that prominent as they used to be but the bass is more audible than in the past. This gives the overall sound a more RAW feel.

Which songs did you have mind, that the keyboards are taking weight off their shoulders? I can only think of Miss You. Both Keith and Ronnie are playing a lot, imo.

No lol, it can't be Keith and Ronnie are playing great, it's the keyboards, or it's the bass or the drummer confused smiley

In all honesty i haven't seen Keith playing consistently like he did on the 26th in Rutherford for decades, i can't figure out how he turns the clock back 20 years just like that, it isn't normal. winking smiley

I thought his playing on the first US post-Charlie tour was equally amazing and consistent. There's some internal energy coil that gets activated in the righgt conditions...

Keyboard has been doing the main driving guitar riff in Whole Wide World. Watch the fingers, then listen to the pregnant pause at 1:29. Chuck (or Matt) didn't do the riff, but a guitar can clearly be heard playing the wrong chord(s). Other than that, I have no problem with keys lifting some of the weight. Stones sounding great on HD tour.

Yes certain conditions, he was in heaven playing next to Ronnie all night, it wasn't just his playing, the Keith moves and poses were back, even the look on his face, perhaps he's found Ronnie's smarties.

"josepi" that's a different show, Keith wasn't so good there.

Still think he's deliberately playing a bum note on SMU intro.

It's Keith who's playing when the others stop. It's not a «wrong» chord - merely a one note lick. It has happened on other versions of WWW on this tour as well. I'm wondering if it's deliberate (he'keeps the beat going) - it creates a cool atmosphere, imo.

Bitch could be an example. By the way: I did not doubt that Keith and Ron are great - it is not a shame if they get a little help from their friends.
