Imagine you had to pick just one Rolling Stones Album to listen for the rest of your life...but you must choose between Dirty Work, Steel Wheels, Voodoo Lounge, Bridges, A Bigger Bang and Hackney Diamonds.
Just one, all others will cease to exist, including pre Dirty work albums

No contest Voodoo Lounge is PROPER Stones. Runner up Steel Wheels as B2B is a strong 3rd.
If I could get Victor Hugo on the side I might consider DW.
As long as HD ain't their last album albeit with 5 good tunes (Angry, Tell Me Straight, Live By The Sword, RS Blues and Mess It Up) I guess it's alright.

For me, the album with the songs I like the most is Hackney Diamonds BUT the one thing that pulls me in a different direction is only having Charlie on a couple of tracks. I've had no trouble enjoying the tracks on Hackney with Steven on drums, but if I'm only going to be able to listen to this one record for the rest of my life, I might pick Voodoo Lounge only so I can enjoy Charlie on the skins on more tracks.
Bottom line, I'm glad I don't have to pick.

Voodoo Lounge for #1 me. 2nd would be Steel Wheels and 3rd place Hackney. I think all 3 are solid albums.

I think it's clearly Hackney Diamonds, I'd give Steel Wheels some props as well.
Both albums feel like they were delivered with passion and purpose and great music, particularly HD.
In fact, if HD had been the follow up to Tattoo You, or instead of Dirty Work?
I think it would have sold nearly as well, or maybe more. Can you imagine SSoH with Whitney Houston playing the Lady Gaga role?
