How cope the environemental issues and a band with 60 trucks ?

Especially with this band has a keyboardist who is a self-revendicated environnemental activist ?

I have no answer, So I bear myself a very tiny proportion of that contradiction (as millions others)

In the next future, I guees we could have "eco-friendly" rock tour – it is even surprising Bono had no yet put it on his global-warming agenda. But it could be boaring too. Rock music rimes well with oil and noisy engines.

But it is true we could do without mammouth towers on the stage – take it off, I guess you cut the half of the trucks.

Ron also a envrionmental man. Check his site.

No such issue along the tour whatsoever, right?

But

"STONES DONATE TO RED CROSS

Rock supergroup the ROLLING
STONES have donated $1 million (GBP555,500) from the proceeds of their
North American A BIGGER BANG tour to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief
Fund for Hurricane Katrina.

The group has also invited Red Cross officials to set up donation banks at
all their upcoming concerts.

In a statement yesterday (09SEP05), the band said, "We wanted to reach out
and offer our help to those whose lives have been devastated by Katrina.

"We hope that our gift will provide vital services and necessities to the
families affected to help them rebuild their lives."

" SFJ yesterday.

Baboo, I know that more or less. I don't say the Stones are not concerned, or not generous sometimes. I also know they have done benefits concert featuring famous as Bill Clinton.

But it is another topic : how WE fans cope with that ?

I don't say the Stones are more to blame than us. It is a shared responsability.

Thanks for bringing this up Joker. I would say that the Stones are more responsible than the ticket buyers, to the extent that they're deciding to have these obscenely large, silly stages (and we'd be buying tickets even if they played like a regular band). But hell, we/I am buying tickets so I'm a hypocrite to that extent.

I'm lucky in that I live in NYC so I don't really have to travel to see them. I justified the Fenway Park shows as I'm a big Red Sox fan and I was going up there at some point this summer. But environmental concerns are part of the reason why I'm seeing them only at MSG in January and not in Philadelphia or Boston as well.

"STONES DONATE TO RED CROSS"

At £150 per ticket, who is really donating to the red Cross?

Screw the "environment". The show must go on and there's money to be made!

I'd love to see them use biodiesel in those 60 trucks... less pollution, produced from renewable resources, not a product of the "neo-con" oil cartels etc. etc.

if ron is an environmentalist, that must be why he shared his humvee with charlie going to the wiltern sound-check in '03! however, he's since been taking a very large SUV all by himself from hotels! it didn't look like a hybrid either!

Regardless of the environmental issue I would rather see the Stones play on a stage w/o a massive backdrop/light show/flames anyway--they're not KISS! They have a great catalog and Mick's a great showman--they don't need that stuff. Then they would need fewer trucks. The video screen is useful though in those huge stadiums.

The Stones should go to the checksound with bikes. But not everyone's bike. Expensive, body-profiled Lance Amstrong's bike in titanium.

I read somewhere they are planting one tree per every co2 equivalend produced extra by the tour. It does not take much to take care of the environment. Only a little bit of concern. By the way it is 127 trucks not 60 on the tour now.

I have to remind you that the Stones did a free concert in Feb. 2003 Los Angeles just on this case. See IORR news of Dec. 23 2002:

Staples Center LA free concert Feb. 6
NRDC (the Natural Resources Defense Council) announced today that the Rolling Stones will perform a special free concert to raise awareness about global warming on February 6, 2003 at Staples Center in Los Angeles, CA, USA. Fans can enter a sweepstakes to win two free tickets by completing the entry form at the NRDC Stones Concert pages. For more information see NRDC presents the Rolling Stones. Also, see the Reuters report.

Well. Thank you for this double information, Bjornulf. You woud indeed be a great lawyer for the Stones. Cheers.
