Very nice touch on Nils’ part and some great guitar playing.

……But damn no one on here should be complaining about Keef’s singing abilities after listening to that!!

Nice gesture from a nice guy...and a very under rated guitar player. One of the very best.

I love Nils Lofgren. He has made some great solo albums. But his voice in the last 30 or so years sounds nothing like he did in the 1970s and 1980s. And judging by this, it's getting even worse.

Yep, but just as with all the old guard... we still have the recordings they made in their pomp.

I still play my old Nils albums quite a lot.

edited to add... we also have a thread about Rory Gallagher on this page and, along with Rory, Nils has produced some of the most amazing tones and licks ever to spring from a Fender Strat.

The wild guitar work reminds me of some old West Coast hippie bands from the late 60's... Big Brother, Jefferson... Even then hip-sounding ELECRIC MUDDY.. Some good acid needed to really get it, no? cool smiley

A nice one, Nils. For Charlie!

Yeah..and there was certainly a bit that vibe going off with his early band, Grin.

On his new album named "Mountain", Nils Lofgren wrote a song for Charlie.
It's called "Won't cry no more".

From an interview with Tina Benitez-Eves, posted by American Songwriter on August 28:

AS: And then there’s the Mountains song, “Won’t Cry No More,” which you also wrote for Charlie Watts.

NL: That was devastating. I really expected Charlie Watts to stick around longer. It’s funny and sad, but on the last Tom Petty tour, Tom didn’t have a Phoenix date, so we treated ourselves and went to Red Rocks in Colorado and saw Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers — top band for me and Amy. It never entered our mind that it would be the last time we would see him. For weeks after Tom passed, we were cursing loudly in the house for weeks. It’s the same thing with Charlie. I was just not prepared for that. Without The Beatles and The Stones or Hendrix, I wouldn’t be here. There are many components of that, but those are the top groups. So I started writing this one riff and saying won’t cry no more, and of course, later in the song, I’m crying again. It was just like an expression of rage. Why do we have to keep losing people like that?

This is great. Mick should be singing it. I'd love something like this on the new album.

When Nils wrote Keith Don’t go, was their consensus in the rock world Keith was in bad shape? I never knew people thought Keith was that bad off

From 1972 to 1978 Keith was in really bad shape with heroin and widely considered a shoe in as being the next to end up in a casket. How he survived that period alone never mind the ensuing 50 years is nothing short of miraculous.

That there was always somebody around to make sure he was still breathing is one possible explanation.

But this thread is about Nils and his respect for Charlie, and we seem to have digressed a little ....just for a change. grinning smiley
