Are the Rolling Stones a new religion??
Posted by: Riffbuk ()

It might sound ridiculous, even offensive to someone, but if I see nowadays, with the new record and tour on the road, there are some similarities with the ones from a religious movement. Just think:
when a new CD comes out, its like we had been waiting for a new hope, we discuss the lyrics like they were the new Gospel.
And then the Tour starts...and we, like pilgrims from all over the world, make our sacrifices to go and pay the tribute and respect to our Gods, we make plans to follow them on every possible concert!!!
I have two kids, and sad to say they know more the Stones lyrics than the Bible!!
Lets face it when I read that some off you have been to 40/50 gigs...that’s more then I ever been to any church....this guys have the power to put side by side Christians, Jews, Muslims, Buddhists, Confucionists , etc etc then other human ever did!!

Sorry if I offend anybody, but I really love them

To some I'm sure they are a religion and to those who are offended by that then that's their lookout. However I think perhaps there is more moral merit to at least some Bible verses than some Stones lyrics!

It's my religion anyway.

If it would be a religion does that mean that all spendings are tax deductable?

The religion is called rock'n'roll and like all religions it's all about money, sex and drugs. The Rolling Stones are just some of its prophets.

I can say (with confidence and stride) that the Stones are FAR from my religion. I love em, and they are the greatest rocknroll band in history, but as far as a way of life I dont see any merit. There are very few tunes that I can find true merit in the lyrics, and even more that I whole-heartedly disagree with. Then again, I became a Stones fan because of the guitars, not the vocals. Then again I attend church weekly, sometimes more, and with that much intake of absolute truth its hard for me to view songs like Live With Me in any redeeming light.

For me its all about the song. The lyrics might be catchy but despite the content all I really care about is 'that riff'. Like in Oh No Not You Again, the second time they hit the chorus there's this one note that gets hit RIGHT at the beginning of the chorus then drops off. Or on Flashpoint that first riff Keith lays down on Brown Sugar... Or on Citadel when the guitar and that highpitch ringing hit together...

Please don't bring them down to the level of religion, I love the Stones, hate the brainwashing they call religion.

As they said it themselves in 'Send it to me'

"Religion is a state of mind I don't need"

The Grateful Dead still has the record for most total live tickets sold, I THINK...

So they might be the "big religion" and the Stones are like a "cult" smiling smiley

The Stones are much better than religion, cause they are REAL.
There 's only one red line, "MONEY"

The same goes with every religion, be it Christianism, Buddhism, Capitalism or Communism.

But, as Keith once put it, "Isms are for @#$%& anyway."

[edited for the sake of the Big A -- Censorshipism seems to be another religion nowadays]

i don't know about "religion"; i call it faith, baby.
all this joy & beauty & spirit & courage & strength
right there, not losing heart, all down the line -
i guess some people get that from their religion;
for sure some of us get it from the Stones.
thanks & praises & say hallelujah - i sure do! :E

Take this with as many grains of salt that you want:

Jim Morrison is the god.

Mick Jagger is the ikon.

Elvis Presley is the king.

Prince is...

David Bowie is the duke.

Bryan Ferry is the governor

Bruce Springsteen is the boss.

Love the band and their music, also the attitude, dress, and general appearance. But nowhere near the place my faith has in my life.

The songs (to use an overworked phrase) are the soundtrack of my life. However, I don't think repeated listenings of "Heaven" are gonna get me into heaven. I don't think spending a good portion of my yearly income to go to a show helps me treat others better.

A way of life, yeah. A religion, no.

Jimbo is the Lizard King but surely not God. To me he is a drunken pile of shite.

If there is a god it must be Mick Jagger since they never dared to hang one of those "titles" onto him.

I thought she's the boss?

However:
Solomon Burke is the King of Soul.
Aretha Franklin is the Queen of Soul.
James Brown is the Godfather of Soul.
Chuck Berry is Mr. Rock'n'roll.
Little Richard is the King of rock'n'roll.
Jerry Lee Lewis is the Killer.
McKinley Morganfield is Muddy Waters.
Ellas McDaniel is Bo Diddley.
Chester Burnett is Howlin' Wolf.
Huddie Ledbetter is Leadbelly.
Robert Johnson is the King of the Delta Blues.

And yes:
Keith Richards is the Human Riff [by kind courtesy of Elmo Lewis].
Johnny Cash is the King of Country Music.
Rick James is the King of punk funk - hey, I didn't know that style existed!
