I think it's partly an American phenomena. A large part of the Taylor Swift audience here in Sweden (Stockholm, 3 concerts, 150 000 audience in total) were flown in Americans.
Apparently it was cheaper for them to fly to Europe and stay a couple of days at a hotel than the single ticket cost in the US...

Same goes for the numerous (6?) French gigs. Lots of US fans. And they took full benefit of seeing their idol in a "small" venue (40000 capacity).

Pearl jam had a go at ‘US’ style pricing for euro tour this time. £160 for standing. Not worked out too well with incremental price cuts and thousands of empty seats for London and Manchester, many dumped on resale platforms and knock down prices
Something wrong when it costs more to see pearl jam than Bruce, eagles, Taylor, foo fighters, green day

Pearl Jam is definitely on the level of Green Day and Foo Fighters.

Yeah but Europe has a tradition of General Admission : I happened to see the Stones front row twice without coughing out the big buck. I just had to show up early and head for the rail.

Fair enough, but PJ tickets costing more than Taylor? I hope you mean James Taylor and not Taylor Swift. I got GA grass for PJ in Indiana (8/26) for $81 total. I think that’s reasonable.

Comparable to Taylor in uk- standing was about £150-180 for swift (I got middling seats for me and the kids for 90 quid each). Cheapest pj tickets on on sale day for Manchester were 160 (flat pricing across entire arena) and London (spurs stadium) 125 or 160.

81 dollars a steal. Last time I saw pj in London was 135 golden circle at Hyde park for TWO nights. So a bit of a shock 3 years later…..

Weird. Wonder why so high? Nashville 2022 was $103. Kentucky 2022 was $129 (would’ve been around $109 if I bought the festival tickets earlier). First show ever was PJ 1994 Murfreesboro, TN. GA pit $19. May be the best show I’ve ever seen.

There are a lot of radio station promos going on for her Euro tour.

big concerts are for the rich only these days. the gap between rich and poor people is to big. For the extreme rich people there are even VIPs. actually they are no VIPs, just rich.
how come there are still homeless people on the streets and others drive teslas, fly the world, etc?

EAT THE RICH

Life's just a cocktail party on the street

The Cure’s Robert Smith says dynamic ticket pricing is a “scam” and “driven by greed”

The original article published on The Times is paywalled. If you search with “Robert Smith dynamic ticket pricing”, a number of quotes from there as well as related comments from readers and discussions (e.g. Reddit) will come up.
