I just don't get why they haven't received these honours when so many of their contemporaries have-- Dylan, the Who, Led Zeppelin, the Beatles/McCartney. This is the time of year when they broadcast the event.

Was gonna say, even if they were Keith wouldn't show. They might as well just induct Mick, But I agree its a conspicuous absence. I'm guessing either cause they'll either do the group or nothing, and Keith won't do it, or they've been asked and declined.

I'm fully confident that had they offered Keith the knighthood, before Mick, he would have gone to the ball with bells on.

It is an interesting question, knowing the others who have received recognition with the Kennedy Center. The others all had others performing their songs in front of them. Heart doing Stairway to Heaven is magnificent. I can't imagine other people doing a few Stones songs in front of what's left of the group.

I hadn't remembered the lines about killing the Kennedys in Sympathy, and the fact that they continue to play it at every show. That could be the main reason. And I wonder if any of the Kennedy family is on the board or has some close relationship with the organization.

Finally, given their historical image as rebels, it may be best that they not be nominated for/accept this award, even if Mick was willing as he was willing to accept knighthood.

Look at the list of honorees the first few decades. The Kennedy Center was as un-rock 'n' roll as you could get. It was for worthy people, certainly, but not rock people. The Kennedy Center honoring rock stars is like the Rock Hall inducting rappers.

Not to mention the fact that it’s an insufferable circle jerk for DC muckety-mucks who get to pretend they’re real fans. I am grateful the Stones have stayed away.

Its a completely meaningless award.Its all about publicity and politics.

The Stones deserve it, and considering they've been chummy with the Clintons (among other various US politicians) surprised they haven't received the honour yet.
Or maybe they have been offered but turned it down, but hard to imagine Mick turning it down.

Thats why I think they've offered it to all of them and either Keith turned it down or they know not to ask because Keith would say no and they're not gonna put Mick in a lone. They don't really do that unless you're a solo artist. The Who, Zeppelin, U2 all went in together and it would be weird to just induct one or two of them if there are other living members. Paul is the only one I can think of who is more famous with his band but was given the honor, and even that is obvious cause he's Paul McCartney on his own.
