July 12, 2022 - Sixty Years of the Rolling Stones
Posted by: jahisnotdead ()
Date: July 12, 2022 02:00

Midnight in London, England.

It's July 12, 2022.

Sixty years ago today, the Rolling Stones took the stage for the first time. They played at the Marquee Club. And they played in Brussels just last night.

What an incredible run for any band, actually for any group of people in any field. How often does such a thing happen? Sixty years as a unit propelled by the same partnership?

So much has happened in these sixty years. So many memories of music that meant so much. People around the world recognize the Stones as one of the greatest rock bands to ever exist, and to this day they are still filling stadiums and arenas.

May they continue to rock.

And the setlist that they performed that evening is noted (less than legibly) by Stu and that's on Page 37 of Rolling With The Stones.

Personally I think July 12th should be a public holiday.

I make that:
Kansas City
Honey, what's wrong
Confessing the blues
Bright lights, big city
Dust my blues
Down the road apiece
I want to love you
Bad Boy
I (???) got you
Hush Hush
Ride 'em on down
Back in USA
I feel kind of lonesome
Blues before sunrise
Big boss Man
Don't stay up all night
Tell Me that you love me
Happy Home

But who was on drums?

60 glorious wondrous controversial rebellious wild reckless amazing fk-it-all corporate awe-inspiring years indeed!!!!

Long may they roll. Though not quite the same, they are none the less still rocking and rolling and in a better semblance of a band gone on for this long than say The Beach Boys, who often have two different bands touring simultaneously. Folks can have their various opinions about Ronnie but the man has been a member for longer than I’ve been alive, and I’m a Gen-X’r!!! Hell he’s been a member for longer than a lot of other bands have even been around. And they have produced a lot of music in those past 48 years together. These four were The Rolling Stones for me, since Bill left so soon after I got into them and I only ever saw them as the quartet that they’ve been ever since.

Like so many here, they have provided the soundtrack to my life, no matter what I've been going thru, they have a song to cover that emotion (though I gotta say I'm having a hard time with this 2nd divorce - the one song I do keep coming back to is No Use in Crying). The longer I'm on here, the more I can start to understand what the elder statesmen find lacking with the latter day Stones, having grown up with the 60's/70's version of the band. I don't think it makes their latter stuff any less relevant - indeed that's how I came to them (as did many others), and wherever a fan found the band, that only means a new generation of fans - that's how I see it.

It’s bitter sweet to be at this juncture without our dear sweet Charlie. Nonetheless, we are here, and a bloody fine day it is to turn up the original bad boys of rock and roll LOUD!!!

Laaaaaaaaaadies and Gentlemen……The Rolling Stones!!!!!!

The future was already written there. The RollinG Stones. Mick didn't like all the attention, so he left his name out, right? (Kidding cool smiley)
The drummer was Tony Chapman (according to Mick Avory it wasn't him that night. He recieved a phone call if he could help out, but soon after that he got another phone call saying "thans for standing by, but we meanwhile have a drummer" or something like that). Sometimes history is rewritten, but a lot of research (f.i. Karnbach et al) corrected it.

60 years ... unbelievable, impossible, rediculous, but .. TRUE cool smiley

Congratulations to the Rolling Stones - 60 years of rock and roll and still touring when most rock bands have come and gone - an incredible achievement in a music industry that has changed so much since 1962
I have had the pleasure of following this band for 55 years of my life and it is still a thrill to see their awesome concerts today where we see them play with the same enthusiasm that we witnessed in the early sixties
I salute this great band - Mick, Keith and Ronnie - keep on rolling
Cheers to the Rolling Stones!

This is also the tenth anniversary of their Marquee Club anniversary photograph. We know now that a new phase of their career began there that's lasting through today

Their "Marquee Club" anniversary photograph was published in 2012 .... but was already made in 2011 in front of a Marquee Club mock-up.

Of course it was a timely fabrication. But at the time it was also welcome evidence that these todgers would not be dodging each other

I was pleased to see today that the US MSNBC show "Morning Joe" recognized the 60th anniversary, along with the birth of Julius Caesar and a few other dates. They played "Satisfaction" going into their break. They quite often choose Rolling Stones songs for commercial intros and lead-outs, but this one one special.
