"Street Fighting Man" from Brussels Affair - absolutely wild, crazy, insane and technically brilliant. Everyone was right on the mark.

Also, as Bjornulf says, Gimme Shelter from Bedspring Symphony is perhaps the greatest recording of all time - well at least in terms of the Stones LIVE. I first got that LP back in 1974 and it still remains my favorite Stones Boot.

Hm, don't know if I'm wrong now - but I think I can recall that "G. The Cock" once said that he recorded that show himself? I might really be wrong now, but I guess you might want to check.

Lorenz:

Many thanks for the keen eye and the lead...

I'll try "G The Cock."

PS: I also remember that Jagger smoked the harp part on "Love Is Strong" that night. Actually made me rethink my entire stance on that song.

All of your picks are good ones. But I'd have to go with Let It Rock from Leeds 1971.

Clocking in at 2:35, it represents everything that the Stones do so well, back in the day when they did it better than anyone.

In person? Keith doing "The Worst'in Oakland, Voodoo Lounge. His charisma was simply overpowering and he made Mick look like a used car salesman. 1

I vote for MONKEY MAN from the Licks Tour! Saw them do this in Philly on Sept 20, 2002 at the First Union Center and they blew the roof off the place!( First Union is not Watchovia Center). Never saw a better live version of this song and would be hard-pressed to name a close second...OK, just thought of the #2 choice! JJF in Montreal in April of 1998. TOTALLY ELECTRIFYING! I took a picture of Mick 5 feet in the air wearing a red tee-shirt and dark sunglasses. He jumped as high as he did in the 70's!!!!!!!

Been to a lot of shows, heard a lot of great music. Hard to answer.

Buzzsaw version of All Down the Line, 1994, Giants Stadium

Nasty, raw, loud, harp howling great Midnight Rambler, 2nd MSG show 2003. You had to be there to FEEL how the damn place heated up from the tension in that song, that night.

Milo, NYC
Might as well get juiced

It's not my favorite song, but this performance is amazing:

I think Out of Control from No Security. Man that cooks. In fact most versions on that tour rocked. Where is it?

My second choice would be Sympathy for the Devil from B2B St louis. I think this is there greatest version ever without a doubt. Everything is perfect. keiths solos are out of this world. The two best guitar solos he's ever done.

my fave has always been Brussels MR

and then everything else from that show....

definitely not a top 5, or even top 10, but slightly down the list is the often overlooked versions of 2000 LYFH from the SW/UJ tour. brilliant, but more of a MJ, matt clifford, charlie song than a big guitar song.....incredibly ambitious (like OOC and CYHMK) but definitely hot every time!

Eveery bit of the Forum Show in March, they were never better. Second best show ever. Prince at the Kodak in 2002 the best. But to say the Stones were still going strong at this late, hey it is amazing. "Far Away Eyes" and "Worried About You" were killers that night. Also the "fossils" at the end of the Wembley Arena show 2003. WOW.

It´s hard to decide which live song is really the "best", but the first time I listend to "Love in Vain" (from 1971 "Leeds Lungs") with Mick Taylor´s guitar, - although it may not be the bist live recording ever - it gave me the goosebumps like never before in my life - and still does...

All the ones mentiones so far, but I'd add "Mannish Boy" from LYL. That altmosphere just sizzles and crackles before the tune starts. Those songs were recorded very very well. And the band was so on that night. When Jagger's harmonica comes howling in after the guitar solo it is so cool. he overdrives the mike.

"...no longer shall you trudge 'cross my peaceful mind."

Isn't there an overdubbed harmonica? I might be wrong but I remember once noticing that at the end of the song for some seconds you can hear harmonica and voice together!
