The Charlie Intro is ruined with the new beat
Posted by: Nikkei ()
Date: June 1, 2022 23:30

Don't wanna stink up the live thread but need to vent this. What made them change the isolated Charlie beat in the intro from CYHMK to something akin to YGMR? It is shameful, I can tell by one listen.

I'm still sad that they move on without him...

If you're sure about that? I'd need to hear it again but it would have to be full of cymbals.

The second half of it is - listen to the drum fill - it’s the same one he does on JJF….

Quit your complaining. You start a thread like this? How negative.

This is the first show of the 6oth anniversary. Show some gratitude and some class.

Really. So ridiculous. Why are some people so negative about everything? What a sad way to live. One day it will all be over and you will have missed the joy and fun of it all. And why? Just to call attention to yourself?
What is there to be so negative about? They sound amazing. They are selling out stadiums. People are having a good time and forgetting all the horrors of the world for a few hours. Relax and enjoy! There are plenty of other things to truly be negative about.
And Charlie would have wanted them to continue. I think he would have been very sad to have been the reason they stopped playing.

Ridiculous. It's still Charlie and the tribute is still there. What is there to really complain about?

You probably have a bunch of reasons to be positive also, but we never really see that. Depends on what you wanna focus on. The choice is yours.

A lot of people have told me they think I'm clairvoyant.

OK, let's test it out...I'm seeing a thread closed tomorrow...can't make out exactly which one.

I'll be back to let you know if I 'see' it.

Charlie is my darling but the Stones have every right to roll on..

Sure, pile on, whatever. Seems like you didn't even read. If anything this serves to illustrate it is who stinks up the place, the critics or the cheerleaders.

Great that they kept the Charlie tribute

For the record, here it is in the new form [www.youtube.com] The other one was swaggering and majestic but most importantly it synced up with the images. This however ist frantic, ends awkwardly and only serves to set the stage for Steve's relentless pounding.

Yeah, for a conservative mind any change is bad. Now think of the new stage - que horror! Thankfully, they don't apply this radicalism to setlists (hopefully the anomaly of "Out of Time" will be soon sorted out).

All good, Nikkei. winking smileythumbs up

Still very sad about Charlies passing, but to be true, they sound better with Steve on certain songs. SFM for example...

They would even sound better with a new guitar player...

True that Steve has given them new energy (and tempo) especially to rockers, but in some songs the special, experience-based connection Charlie had with the others, especially with Keith, seems to be missing. How Charlie was able to read Mick and Keith, and they 100% rely on him doing the right thing. I think in "Midnight Rambler" that is the most obvious (and also tells how unique and almost transcendental the 'click' between those guys was).

Or, they could stay home and twiddle their thumbs. I don’t know what people expect them to do. Not play anymore? Or is it okay to play live but not together, or together but no Stones songs? There aren’t a lot of options. The criticism about the intro is ridiculous as well

I might be wrong since nobody else noticed it here. But it seems so obvious to me that the groove is Brown Sugar. The switching from hihat to floor tom on the "verse", the fills on the "chorus", the end. Gotta compare it later. But I'm pretty sure that's Brown Sugar...

That was my first thought at the show as Well. Have to Listen to it again!
