The fact they can still produce quality rock songs is mind boggling. Equally as boggling, or perhaps even more, is the fact that they can still go out on the road at their age's and rock harder than anyone half their age.
I am a very old person who saw the Stones a number of times in the 1970s.
I really didn't even bother seeing them post 1978. I don't like stadium shows and thought they'd turned into a Vegas act. I honestly didn't even care.
I saw their HBO shows from the 90s and thought they were completely irrelevant and lame. Never tried to get tix to their shows near me.
And now...
A ticket to a very good seat and a girlfriend got me to see them on this current tour.
I am shocked.
If Mick Jagger had been performing like this 30 years ago, we wouldn't be having this conversation. His voice is more than flawless -- it is rock blues perfection. His body is riveted with emotion. He sings every word like his life depended on it. There is just no one -- ever -- like him.
Keith's playing is so dead on -- I wish I had seen him play like this in 1975, not 2005. He made every song sound so fresh. True, I could have lived without Tumbling Dice or Honky Tonk Women. But It's Only Rock and Roll just lifted every seat off its hinge. Jumping Jack Flash sounded like it could have been recorded yesterday.
Go ahead and complain about the setlist -- it's true, half of the songs are pretty tired. But their peformance was so moving, I was blown away. My hat's off to the Rolling Stones. They are doing something I never thought was possible, and I think they deserve a @#$%& lot of credit. They were great, and they are just genius on this tour. It's too bad the songs are so old, because I think they're giving some of the better performances they've ever done.
I think this is bv's favorite thread . . . the very reason he built this forum.
Somebody, anybody, name me just one other band with members in their 60's who were big in the 60's and who could get 60,000 people in an arena today in over 60 cities (over 100 cities actually, but I've got that 60's thing going, so . . .) throughout the world. . . never mind with some of those people paying 350-450 dollars for a seat.
jaggers voice is holdin up very very well, its incredible really 4 the amount of shows he's done since 89 ,i saw macca 2 nites in a row in philly & his voice was givin out on almost every song, & he didn't tour 2 much in the past
The Stones have always beat out the competition of any given era, but this year has been great because the Stones are better than they have been in years, on disc and live.

Amen, praise the Lord. Nice to see the occasional "we love the Stones" post. It's a rare thing these days.
since december 24th, 1971 ( or was it 1967 ? ), i always knew that the greatest rock n roll band will play their best ever scandinavian stadium show 2006...so nice when wishes and dreams come true....
