I could be wrong but I think that’s a Jim Marshall photo.

Oh yeah. Always when I am listening to EXILE and listening Mick and Keith wild dueting all over the album that very photo occurs to my mind. It captures the spirit.

Iirc Jim Marshall.

It must have been during the final overdubbing sessions at Sunset Sound Studios early 72.

From the IORR "Album Art" section (link on the IORR home page):

Exile On Main St (1972) - Album Art

Across the top of the sleeve in green print is “Exile on Main Street: Rolling Stones.” This is followed by
the Stones names and instruments as well as mentions of Bobby Keys, Jim Price and Nicky Hopkins all in
black print. Two frames of a smile speculated to belong to Chris O’Dell separate the side 3 and side 4 set
lists, where song names are in red print with contributing musicians in black print. Once again, the song
names look like they were written on strips of paper and taped to the sleeve. Below the set lists you will
find a strip of five photos of Mick Jagger flanking a Robert Frank photo of Keith and Mick in the studio,
which is right bounded by a strip of five photos of Keith laid overtop the Frank photo. He is eating a
sandwich in three of the five shots.

Robert Frank?
Thanks...

I'd bet that the next time they do a re-release of exile those bottles in the picture will be gone (just like the cigarette smoke on the cover of 'Main Offender')

I don't recall seeing a J. Marshall credit on Exile for additional photography...

Then again, the photos in R. Frank's RE-photographed photo montage on the cover of Exile features photos by numerous photographers, most unknown. At least one photo by Diane Arbus (Congo the Jungle Creep) ...

Yeah, a good point about Frank's 're-photographing'. That'a possibility. But what goes for credition in EXILE in general, well, the album is not exactly famous for its accurate credits...
