The Warriors
Escape From New York

What about movies with a rock n roll element?

all time classic rock movie for me is Still Crazy, about the aging rock band making a come back - absolute classic and funny as @#$%&, and of course it stars Bill Nighy, who is a big Stones nut. One of my all time favourite movies - better than Spinal Tap for my money.

I also really Liked Detroit rock City, about the lads on a road trip to see Kiss,

Austin Powers 3
Dirty Harry
Pale Rider
Josey Wales
All of the Lord of the Rings

Bill Nighy was also great in Love Actually. He's totally Keith-like, much more than Johnny Depp. Sorry Johnny.

Wasn't looking too good, but I was feeling real well.

"The Godfather", I & II
"Chariots of Fire"
"Amadeus"
"Casablanca"
"12 Angry Men"
...and many more.

In the "horror" genre:

"The Haunting" from 1963. It is a black and white film, with all the terror and fright implied, you see no "monsters". There was a remake of it with Liam Neeson that was abysmal, nothing but special effects and not at all "scary".

Most Hitchcock movies were very good.

Foreign film:

"Germinal" with Gerard Depardieu

Music:

"The Last Waltz"
"Gimme Shelter"

Back To The Future 3
Scream 3

I like classic movies like:

- Les Enfants Du Paradis (Carne)
- Le Grande Illusion (Renoir)
- The Third Man (Reed)
- Sunset Boulevard (Wilder)
- Tokyo Monogatari (Ozu) - maybe the best movie ever!!
- Godfather II (Scorsese)
- Verigo (Hitchcock)

and more...

That's one of my standard answers to people who ask me "what's my favorite movie?"

Must have seen it dozens of times. Actually I like all of Malick's work, but this one really gets me, the lighting and framing is amazingly good. As well, the narrative voice of Linda Manz's character is amazing, naive, gutter poetry.

"I've been thinking what to do wit' my future. I could be a mud doctor. Check out the earth. Underneat'.

This girl, she didn't know where she was going or what she was going to do. She didn't have no money on her. Maybe she'd met up with a character. I was hoping things would work out for her. She was a good friend of mine."

I'm looking forward to The New World, apparently he's shot the entire thing on 65mm film (novisual effects footage). It was supposed to be out this month, but it looks like it's been moved to limited release on Christmas day and then January throughout North America.

Sounds so obvious but since no one's said it yet I'll mention a little movie made by a 26 year old guy from radio, his first film, it was called, what was it now . . .oh yeah, Citizen Kane. Not a bad little picture to have if you're stuck on a desert isle.

And since this is a sound board, It's probably worth mentioning that that Kane Bernard Herrmann's first score.

His last film is worth mentioning, too: Taxi Driver.

And then there's the personal indulgence film: Planet of The Apes (original). I saw that in the theatre when I was 6 years old, and by the time I left I had forgotten that the real world actually existed. Scared the sheet out of me.

Take your stinking paws off me, you damned dirty ape!

Hey Monkeytonkman,
I just saw Still Crazy this weekend for the first time. Bill Nighy putting on his death make-up was hilarious.

"Payday" 1973 starring Rip Torn (no kidding) as a self-destructive country singer (may have been loosely based on Waylon Jennings)

and for any Walter Matthau fans: The Odd Couple, The Taking of Pelham One Two Three, Charley Varrick, The Bad News Bears, Grumpy Old Men, Lonely Are The Brave.......what a character!

How about the ending of Grumpy Old Men, when they keep showing the blooper reel of Burgess Meredith saying a euphemism for sex, but he keeps cracking everyone up?

"Looks like he tried to take the old skin-boat to tuna town"
"Time to take the old log to the beaver"
etc.

Wasn't looking too good, but I was feeling real well.
