It always seemed to me that people who were general rock'n'roll fans with a more casual interest in the Stones saw "Satisfaction" as the band's signature and masterpiece.

People whose allegiance had gone decisively to the Stones--who had gotten "inside" the phenomenon--seemed to prefer "Jumpin' Jack Flash."

Don't know if that's accurate or fair, but count me with the latter:

"Jumpin' Jack Flash" is a beast.

Jumping Jack Flash crushes Satisfaction.

Satisfaction may have been the anthem of the 60's and was THE song that really put the Stones on the map but JJF is a totally different creature.

Jumping Jack Flash was the first song that ushered in a new era for the band. Although the band made many great records before JJF this one eclipsed them all.

In some way JJF embodied everything the band was/is. In my opinion it is their greatest song.

The song has perhaps the coolest sounding chord sequence of any rock song, a fantastic groove to it, the lyrics are greatand Mick sang them perfect, the chorus, Keith's throbbing bass line, Charlies "garbage can sounding drums (he never hits the cymbals on the studio version) and of course the riff.

Because the riff is basically the Satisfaction riff inverted I always saw a connection between the 2 songs.

Jumping Jack Flash is the Stones. We all know the dozens of great songs they have made, but JJF was and still is something special.

A perfect record.

"Jumping Jack Flash takes on Satisfaction and within 3 minutes Satisfaction is in trouble Mean Gene". "Yes Jesse ("The Body" Ventura) Satisfaction seems to be in BIG trouble". "Well, I'll tell you something Mean Gene: That clothesline from JJFlash was simply stunning. And he follows up with a piledriver, a snapmare, a body slam, a gorilla press, a leg drop. It MUST be over now Mean Gene".

"......OH MY GOD Jesse. Satisfaction got out of that pin in the last split second". "You know he's a fighter Mean Gene. But don't look now Gene. Satisfaction comes back and is now the 94/95 version. He's always strong like that. He uses his signature move Mean Gene. Here it comes.......(SLAM) OH MY GOD Mean Gene. What a slam. His signature move, called The Riff, really blew out all air in JJFlash' body". "Yes Jesse, JJFlash is the one on the canvas now. Satisfaction attempts a pin".

"................JEEEEEEEEEESUS CHRIST Mean Gene. JJFlash got out of it. I CAN'T BELIEVE IT"!!!!!!!!! "Yes Jesse, and now it's Jumping Jack Flash with HIS signature move called Demonic Driver". (SLAM!!!!!!!). "He pins him Mean Gene".

"And a stunning victory Jesse. Jumping Jack Flash has won the title bout against Brown Sugar at Beatlemania smiling bouncing smiley". "Yes, an awesome fight here Mean Gene, but I have my doubts that Jumping Jack Flash can beat the champion since 1971 Brown Sugar. We will see soon". "This is Mean Gene Okerlund and Jesse "The Body" Ventura signing off from Monday Night Raw".

"(I can't get no) satisfaction" is true garage fuzz, primitive riff, great lyrics, everything fantastic. One of the best songs ever.

Still I prefer "Jumpin' jack flash". Though it is merely a variation of "Satisfaction", it perfected the formula and it grooves like hell - for me it is no question: this is the best piece of music ever recorded!

In my Stones favorites chart "Jumpin' jack flash" sits on top, "Tumbling dice" holds the #2 spot while "Satisfaction" is at #3.

Is this a tie or is this a gas?

I'll be interested to see what happens between "JJF" and "Brown Sugar," but won't the exhausted winner of that match be destroyed when the "Honky Tonk Women" burst from the crowd and attack?

This is sort of taking the "gas" out of the main Cage Match series. Why go there so soon?

Anyway, I'm surprised at how great "Satisfaction" always sounds live. More of a jam than the studio version promises.

Point taken, cc.

I was standing there at Fenway #1, wishing they would dig deeper into the catalogue and they floored me with the b-stage version of "Satisfaction." Great stuff.

Yeah, ever since the Ya-Ya's version, they've really opened it up, made it a barn-burner. And the arrangement with Stevie Wonder's band in '72, I especially like.
