Can you translate this please :

"Rütten hofft, dass der Vertrag mit den Stones in den nächsten Tagen unterschrieben wird. Die Veranstalter wollen rechtzeitig zum Weihnachtsgeschäft den Vorverkauf starten."

Translating is something like: Hopefully a contract in the next few days and sales starting well before Christmas.

Oh interesting. Does the city of Cologne allow now to hold concerts in the Rhein-Energie-Arena? That was the reason the Stones played Oberhausen during Licks because people living in that area complained against concerts in the new arena. And I don't think that one Mr. Rütten will be the promoter for the Stones tour in Germany. But who cares what the Express will write anyway. Let's see what happens...

Yes, I think they do concerts there now. I think Robbie Williams got booked there for next summer, too. But I can't confirm this last information. Somebody told me. Maybe someone can find out.

@rknuth: The new Rhein-Energie-Arena replaced the old Müngersdorfer Stadium. When the Stones planned their Licks tour, the new Arena was just built. So they asked for a big open air place - an area near the airport Cologne-Bonn. As Cologne was too lame to give permission, the promoters decided for Oberhausen.

You mix up things...just to make it clear:

2003 the Stones were asking to play at the "Jahn Wiesen"...which is a big grass field and can hold about 80.000 people.
It is just 200 meters away from the "Rhein-Energie Stadium" which was just rebuild and formerly known as the Müngersdorfer Stadion.

As the Rhein-Energie stadion is limited to about 45.000,
the promoter asked for a bigger place.
Someone said: " Hey, why not using the big field on the backside of the stadium, called " Jahnwiesen", which has never been used for concerts before.
It is normaly used as a parking lot for the stadium visitors and for hobby footballers .
The city of cologne were dicussing about leting the Stones play at the "JahnWiesen" or not...due to complaints from the neigbourhood and envirenmont organisations the decission process took the city too much time,
the promoter became nervous, and just 2 days before the decided to say YES, the concert was given away to Oberhausen ( 80 km north) because the promoter could not wait any longer.
Oberhausen was a very bad choice by the way...remember the stone rockets all over the dusty field ?

Because of that negative experience the city of Cologne decided that should never happen again and they soon said "Yes" to the Robbie Williams show which will take place at the Jahnwiese on August 8 2006.

This time the Stones promoter did not ask for a big field show....
and that makes the new Rhein-Energie Stadium to a perfect choice for a Stones gig.
Why ?
Because it is not too big...just about 45.000
it is very close...kind of english football stadium.
The big stage will cover almost the whole southside of the stadium..with almost no space left...that makes the crowd packed together.
