Driving Too Fast
Back OF My Hand

Side B
It Won't Take Long

James Lynn,

Almost the same as mine except I kept Look What The Cat and you kept Let Me Down Slow...interesting...I'm curious to see if most Stones fans have the same feelings on these songs...however from reading Posts alot of people like She Saw Me Coming...which I think is a good idea that goes nowhere.

1. "Look What The Cat Dragged In"--OUT!
2. "Sweet Neo Con"--OUT!
3. "Dangerous Beauty"--OUT!
4. "Biggest Mistake"--OUT!

I know lots of people like a bunch of those songs. I think they're all downright lousy. But here's where I have to start thinking about it...

5. "Driving Too Fast"--pretty thin lyrically, wouldn't ya say? But I could keep it and get rid of "She Saw Me Coming," "Won't Take Long," or even "Oh, No..." And that's an unfortunate aspect of the record. After what I see as real missteps (the four above), there's plenty that's just not that memorable. Not bad, but just OK. Schmaltzy as it is, "Streets" at least has a memorable hook and a presence.

6. "This Place Is Empty"--Not nearly as good as others he's done in this vein. Pretty bad "Moon/June/Spoon" words. And the "bear your breasts" thing. "Infamy" has a cool little thing all its own happenin'. And Jagger's harp...

A final thought:

That moment in "Rough Justice," right after Jagger has sung "now I'm justa one your cockssssssss" and you can hear one of the guys in background exclaim: 'whoooaaaa!'"...you know that moment?

Might be worth the price of the disc.

10 songs only? How depressing of a thought.
I do admit though there is alot of filler on the new album.

But if I had my way, ABB should have been a double album/cd in the first place, with at least 27 songs.

We need to hear more new stuff I say!

Hi,

I'll try my hand at this. Filler songs on ABB is something I've thought a lot about since first hearing it. If I had to pick only 10 songs they would be:

1. Rough Justice: Lately I've been skipping by this one. It gets a little boring.
2. Let Me Down Slow: I love this song! Probably my favorite on the album.
3. Rain Fall Down: Hot Stuff meets Dance (Pt.1). Nothing new here.
4. Streets of Love: Sounds more like a Mick solo song than Stones, but still nice.
5. Back of My Hand: Stones blues "filler" at it's finest. Not bad.
6. This Place Is Empty: A nice one from Keith.
7. She Saw Me Coming: I still enjoy this one. It's all about the groove here. Nice!
8. Biggest Mistake: OK, the lyrics sound like they're from a "chick flick" movie soundtrack, but I still like this song. It has a very catchy melody.
9. Driving Too Fast or Oh No Not You Again: I can't quite decide which I prefer more. Maybe Driving Too Fast. Both are just average songs.
10.Infamy: Again, it's all about the groove here. I will always love this song!

Thanks for reading,
Dan

I would ditch Neo-Con. I don't really like political songs (either way) when it comes to music, I don't want a reality check.

Even more than that, I do not think that Neo Con is a good song musically, one dimensional and it dates the album.

I feel that Neo-Con is the weakest track on the CD, added on for publicity..I think Mick wanted to stir the Hornets nest..........and it did not happen.

Other than that tune I think the rest are just fine.

I saw some 10 song lineups some of you put together that would work great

There's only one song that I'd like to get rid of - Infamy.
This is a pure filler IMO and I always skip it while listening to the cd.
The remaining 15 songs are great, even Sweet Neo Con and Streets of Love.
The latter one is a bit slick, but it's catchy and it's got "that something".
The tracks I've listened to most times are Laugh I Nearly Died and Sweet Neo Con.

01 rough justice
02 look what the cat dragged in
03 rain fall down
04 let me down slow
05 it won't take long

06 oh no noy you again
07 back of my hand
08 driving too fast
09 laugh i nearly died
10 infamy

I would rename the album 'Rough Justice'.

She saw me coming, biggest mistake and this place is empty would replace the remixes of the fortcoming singles.

Sweet ne=con would stay in the vaults. Streets of love could serve as the hurricane download or as a contribution to a charity project. Or Mick's next project.

Explain to me why the hell I would lose 6 songs of an album? The more the merrier!

Re: ABB Without The Filler

Can't narrow down to 10. As a child of the CD era, I sometimes even wish Some Girls had more songs...

1. Rough Justice
2. let me down slow (the hell is wrong with this one?! I love it. Fits RIGHT IN after RJ)
3. It wont take long
4. Rain Fall Down (most certainly better than Hot stuff)
[[SOL OUT-- WAY too cheesy lyrics, way too cheesy singing]]

5. BOHM (better than you gotta move, imo)
6. SSM Coming (fun)
7. Biggest Mistake (go ahead, knock this one-- i dont care. THe lyrics are far better/more honest that SOL! Or even Laugh, i nearly died)
[[TPIE OUT-- too static/snooze-inducing. Not anywhere near as good as Thru and Thru, The Worst, Slipping Away, or even You Dont have to......)
8. ONNYA (awesome)
9. LIND (very beautifully sung & played)
[[Neocon OUT-- OK, so they got themselves briefly in the papers/news channels with this one... and jacked up their Amazon.com sales rank... yawn. And no I don't like Bush).
10. Dangerous Beauty (i just .... like this song. Rather have it in than not).
11. LWTCDI (even more fun that SSMC)
12. Driving too fast (i love this song, dont know why many don't).

-- Dont know about Infamy. It doesnt hurt anything being included, but I agree it doesn't seem to go anywhere... much.

Myself also being a child of the Cd era I find it hard to edit down as well. The more songs the better and I think everything on this album is pretty solid. The only song I find myself skipping is She Saw Me Coming.
