I've convinced myself that Memphis is going to be a great show and I'm going make my way down there to catch the show.

Anyone else got a similar vibe? Anyone else catching the show? I'll probably end up picking up two tix, given the way they're sold so if anyone's interested lemme me know.

So tempted.

Sun Studios, Beale Street, Soulsville, Graceland. Plus the Stones on their last night before Christmas break.

What a weekend it could be...

Actually, Rev, it was your original idea that convinced me. It's the perfect spot in time to see the boys.

Well, thanks Camper...

When people around me are curious as to why the Stones matter so much to me, I always try to explain that the Stones are, in some sense, merely standard-bearers for American musical traditions: Country, Blues, R&B, Gospel and so on...

I mean, beyond the Stones' 400-plus (500?) great songs and forty years of the shows, etc. is this gift that they gave me--a white kid from outside of NYC--of pointing the way to all this great music. These days, especially, it's Little Walter or Jimmy Reed or Gram Parsons that makes me proudest to be an American.

I also feel that the Stones themselves seem most joyful and passionate when they take a moment to drop the weight of their own legacy and do a cover tune. "Little Queenie" at Port Chester, NY 1997 was an amazing moment and the performances of "Night Time" on this tour seem like absolute high points; the Stones in their purest state, celebrating American R&B. It's a signal from atop the bright, shiny entertainment empire that they haven't forgotten what it was that launched the dream.

Based on all that, Memphis seems a very sweet opportunity to reflect on these grand musical currents and the Stones' hallowed place within them.

To walk in to Sun and stand where Cash, Orbison, Howlin' Wolf, Jerry Lee, Carl Perkins and The King all recorded? Wow.

Wow, exactly, I'm going to be leaving from Minnesota, traveling down old Highway 61, get a hair cut in St Louis, and keep on keeping on till Memphis.

Then someday, I'm going to die happy.

Camper--

A pack of Luckies or Camels or even Marlboros on the dashboard? A Hank Ballard & The Midnighters or Buck Owens track coming over the radio? A shave with that haircut?

I need a damn time machine. Wasn't made for an America dominated by Wal-Mart and multiplexes.

If it's half as good as Nashville was three years ago you'll be very happy you'll have made the effort...

I'll be there. My buddy (who I'm sure will post on this thread soon) offered me a ticket on the agreement that I..

A. drive us down there (his vehicle is on the rocks)
and
B. tape the show

I can handle both of those tasks easily, so I'm really looking forward to it. I'd like to make it out to the Chicago gig/s and St Louis as well but I'll have to see if my bank account agrees with me.

The thought of seeing them again (Memphis will be my 7th Stones show) is already getting me hyped. Especially after hearing As Tears Go By. (which reminds me, tonight, around 2-3am I'll be posting a remastered version of the Petco show on the rocksoff tracker. I'll start a thread on here when its up.)

A preshow wiskeysour, a pack of Camel silvers and the Stones. Booya.

Remember Drake, I'm good for $20 toward your Chicago ticket (the least we can do after he gave us the great Columbus recording, right?)

Camper, let me know what you come up with as I would be travelling from Drake's direction (Louisville, KY). I would be very interested-email: bluenorth@insightbb.com

This will be a hot show I'm convinced as well!

To those who have never visited Memphis, please go ASAP. It will be worth your trip. Rev. Robert W. pretty much summed it up. The home of much music we hold dear. Thank God I'm a southerner!

I appreciate it man but you dont owe me anything man! Everyone here continually contributes to my ever expanding collection and I try to do the same. Columbus 05 and Nashville 03 were the least I could donate to the trade circles. Will you be attending Chicago? I'd be game for the show. I can spare the gas money and most of the ticket, but another hotel would probably be the death of me. I'd rather sleep in my car and if I'm riding solo I could do it.

And yes UnderAssistantWCpromoMan, we gonna party down in Memphis. Worse case scenario you should drive there with $100 in your pocket (all in 10 dolla billz) and barter with the scalpers for good seats. There's always spare seats being sold.

Has anyone seen a concert in the Memphis venue? It appears to be pretty small compared to most venues on this tour, and I thoroughly enjoyed Nashville back in 03. If Memphis is anything like Nashvegas... w000000!!!

I'll be heading from Virginia to Memphis (about 11 hour drive) the Friday before the show. Stopping in Nashville Friday night to catch the Grand ole Opry at the Ryman. If you are the wagering type after the Stones concert drive down the 61 Highway(as the locals refer to it) about 30 miles to Robinsonville, Mississippi. There are 9 Vegas style casinos there along the river. The Sam's Towne Casino is built on the plantation where Robert Johnson was raised.

Hell Skippy,

My whole life's a gamble, I don't need a casino to crap out. I've got my personal life for that. :-)

There's plenty of tickets on Ticketmaster. It seems they are sold out of the $90 ones, but have 60, 160, and 350. I copped one two days ago but checked again today and still there.

I checked again and we are actually in 217, row E. For some reason I had the number 115 stuck in my head but it is actually 217. I must be having subconscious delusions that I am closer than I actually am!

Alright people... So far my car will include 'ohnonotyouagain' 'crossfire' and myself. Any other Louisville/semiLouisville natives want to join in this caravan? We got room for one other individual. Otherwise, that seat will be occupied by a cooler carrying various distracting substances.

I'll be coming over from Nashville if anybody needs a ride or caravan. I lived in Memphis years ago - B.B. Kings on Beale Street is a cool pre-concert party place.

The Memphis radio station I heard in the cab coming in from the airport was calling it a Stones weekend, their giving tickets away at the downtown Hooters, like anyone needs a third reason to go to Hooters.

camper, so you're already in Memphis? I'm sitting here in Louisville wishing tomorrow would hurry up and get here. Like a kid before Christmas!
