sad new indeed. I remember seeing the Chieftains in the 90's in Brittany during the interceltic festival in Lorient. They played very quietly and kind of forced the audience to listen to them with attention. It was almost like a classical music concert, quite different from the others bands that were more rock and loud.

RIP Paddy.... A real gentleman and a musical antenna. One of the real masters of his craft. His work with Sean o Riada and Ceoltoiri Chualann tears me up at times.

I remember him well from The Chieftains playing their music, on TV here in UK, and also Paddy in interviews.

I can imagine that he was a really nice guy, as most people are, who come from the Ireland of Ireland.

God Bless you Paddy. thumbs up

That is the saddest news - a great musician and the leader of a magnificent band. RIP Paddy.

The Chieftains were great, fantastic concerts. I remember once, in a clasical auditórium in Madrid, Paddy requested that everybody should wake up and dance and sing. Paddy was incredible. Rest in peace

Maybe what is not so well known to many Stones fans is what a great admirer of, and friend of, The Rolling Stones Paddy was. He recorded with several members of the band, especially Mick. And the entire band guested on The Rocky Road To Dublin, a track from The Chieftans 1995 album The Long Black Veil. Mick also sang on the title track from the same album.

One of the greatest ever examples of Paddy Moloney's musical prowess can be heard on Mick Jagger's recording of Party Doll on the Primitive Cool album. The uileann pipe solo played by Paddy on that track could make the hardest heart melt.

God Bless you Paddy. Thank you for the music.
