OT: What Is Your Alcohol Of Choice ... And Your Favorite Alcohol Song Reference?
Posted by: ohnonotyouagain ()

If you could only drink one particular type of alcohol and one particular brand for the rest of your life (or the rest of the weekend, if the thought of a lifetime ban horrifies you), what would it be?

I am going to be extemely boring and say beer, Budweiser beer. I have tried hundreds of different types of beer and still like Bud the best, even though I know it would be hipper to like some sort of ale or lager. And I still prefer beer to more sophisticated drinks such as scotch or whatever. What can I say, I am a crude individual with simple tastes. smiling smiley

But hey, whatever you drink, it's all good. Unless you drink too much of it. And none of us would ever do that, of course!

Oh, the other part is your favorite song with an alcohol reference in it. Mine is "Red Red Wine" by The Replacements. As the song says, I ain't no connoiseur cat. Second would be "Alcohol" by the Kinks.

Beer is it. And right now it's Old Milwaukee Ice tall cans.

The song maybe One Bourbon, One Scotch, One Beer by George Thorogood

Carlo Rossi Burgundy. Comes in a 4-liter bottle
for $7.99. And I do plan on drinking it virtually
every night for the rest of my life. As for the
song, I'll give the nod to Nick Cave and the Bad
Seeds for "Brother, My Cup is Empty":

"Brother, my cup is empty and I haven't got a penny
for to buy no more whiskey, I have to go home".

That's like asking what kind of women do you like.

The honest answer is variety is the spice of life . . . unless you're married, then it's the kiss of death.

1 Patron tequila, 100% de Agave. It's not just for breakfast anymore.
2 The Macallan, try to make sure she's at least 18.
(both 1 and 2 are scientifically accepted proof that there is a god)
3 Drambuie
4 Chianti, or a house red in a trattoria
5 Beer, preferably cold. Too many brands to list.

As for the song, Markdog nailed it. No question, brilliant interpretation of Hooker.

Hm, difficult to answer - right now it would be red wine, preferably some good one from Bordeaux or Cote du Rhone... Beer would be my second favourite, but here in France it just tastes like water!

During the Depression, poverty-stricken alcoholics would drink what we Americans know by the brand name Sterno. (Is it called that in the UK and elsewhere?)

It's a solid, sort of waxy alcohol-based substance used to create a cooking fire in a can. And when melted, it can be consumed as liquid. Not so good for the health.

Tommy Johnson: "Canned Heat Blues."

Like crack for the 1930's set...

A good bottle of jack D. along with Exile On Main Street is always good.
For all you boppers out there: Listen to Band On The Run (The entire CD) while drinking a few cold bruskies. That's also cool.

A case of Schlitz and the MC5. Talk about old school.
Then of course I could put on Snoop Dog and break out the Kristal.

It is weird how ceratin music brings out a certain palate. I ever listen to soft rock but for some reason this morning, right this moment, I am listening to Fleetwood Mac and Stevie Nicks doing "Silver Springs". What a gorgeous tune! Makes me want to brew tea though...

I have gone off alcohol, because the ensuing headaches really aren't worth it.

But I've always loved the song with the refrain that goes
"One bourbon, one scotch, one beer..."

"One bourbon, one scotch, one beer..." John Lee Hooker.
No, you´re the Ganja Woman, Jo, arent you? smiling smiley
I prefer the headache before psychosis...
(but, as Tosh says; "it´s good for Tubercholosis...")

Gazza: those song titles are fabulous, but I'm really glad I don't have to listen to the songs.....(And would you satisfy my curiosity and tell me what the 10" to 2" song is about??? Is the composer Mr. Bobbit?)

Baboon Bro: You're a poet. But you don't know it.

At the moment, all that comes to mind is Tequila by the Pretenders. Usually I don't drink, so I can't name a beverage really.

Leonard, I figured you and me would be copacetic on this one. George's best line, from Still Doin Time (In a Honky Tonk prison):

"The ocean of liquor
I drank to forget her
Is gonna kill me
But I'll drink til then"

I have two tall gin martinis every Friday night. Makes the world go away (to quote another song). But I'm a beer-type guy the rest of the week.
