I just saw the little video clip of "As tears go by". You can't hear very much. But what I hear is just a foozled version. What for are they doing it? The song is all about being sweet and fingerpicked. It's obvious Keith can't play it anymore, he's just strumming it like every 16 year old could do it. What's the pint in doing that? Just to please some fans that want to hear "songs that have never been played live"? In my opinion some songs should never be played live.
Then again the songs wasn't ever meant to be a proper Rolling Stones song. After Marianne Faithfull's success they released it just on the American market (single and wacky "album" DECEMBER'S CHILDREN). They even went as far as recording an Italian version of it with Mick Jagger singing "Con le mie lacrime" but no other Stones involved! They had a #1 in the UK with "Little red rooster" but they didn't release in the UK (too black & bluesy) but one year later they released "As tears go by" in the US. They would never have dared to release it in the UK.
I suggest they'd leave that song to Marianne Faithfull or to junkies like Johnny Thunders (R.I.P.). And I hope they won't play it in Europe unless Keith is going to rehearse it or undertake some serious finger surgery.

Great song. Love its simplicity. Back in the 60s and 70s, just about every starting guitarist played two songs over and over again. House of the Rising Sun and As Tears Go By.
I like the song, including Marianne's original and her sombre re-make from a few years ago. Never liked the strings on the RS version. It is - can be - a powerful song, but the strings version doesn't really fit on the otherwise raw, punky, speed-driven Dec. Children...
It is amazing how many posters state that they can play songs parts better themselves than the Stones can !!! There are so many ego idiots on this board who obviously think they are superstars. What a Shame that they are bit part players and not the real thing.
what a incredible ballad,,,would of liked 2 hear chuck doin the strings part ,,which is the heart of the tune imo ,,but other than that ,,,i sure wish i was there

it´s a great song! i´d love to hear it live. it´s one of these songs that you learn first when you start guitar playing. even in school we used to sing it among many other classics such as let it be....most younger people know only 4 stones song.. "as tears go by", "angie", "satisfaction" and "anybody seen my baby?" before 2002 i had also only known these songs. they had to do it!

STUPIDEST post of the day. Thank you, Captain, that was a good one !
It was great in Hollywod and even better in San Diego. If you don't like that song as they perform it now then you are missing something. Even better than "She Smiled Sweetly" at Roseland ballrom, and that means a lot.
based on the short video clip, that had to be an incredible moment for any Stones fan...can't see a reason to complain there...nicely done version of a gorgeous song IMO.

I don't understand how some of you can call a person idiot or stupid for writing a personal thought. Being a good stones fan doesn't mean that you like all what they do or all what they think or say. Without critics there is no way to do things better!
