Some songs from Hollywood Bowl I
Posted by: Lorenz ()
Date: November 10, 2005 18:45

Well, someone posted a version some time ago and Ronnie really @#$%& up the solo.
As a big Ronnie fan I was delighted to hear that it worked definitely better this time around! The solo is one of Ronnie's better ones these days, a couple of bum notes towards the end, but very nice performance,

just happen to be listening to DF from 11/6 right now! I wouldn't say he effed up the solo here...but I wouldn't say he nailed it either. He just seems to be playing two-note couplets these days...no fluidity or logic to the solo.

Lorenzconfused smileyee how complacent we are by now! Ronnie didn't nail this simple solo(follow blindly the D pentatonic and you're safe) and we end up delighted!!!!!

Happy to read they made it again. I expect to hear it in Europe after 34 Years with some nostalgia due to the absence of Mick Y on this one.

Thanks!!!

Now, what about Midnight Rambler? The end of the Dead Flowers track has the beginning notes of MR. Can you post it here??

I tell you something olympia - I saw Ronnie earlier this year in London and he was very good that night! I had high hopes for this tour and just like everyone else I have no idea how it is possible that he butchers some solos (Tumbling Dice, sometimes Start Me Up) like he does. I just don't get it...
So, yes, I'm easy to please when it comes to his solos, it's a shame but I'm happy if it doesn't destroy some song...:O

I think he is still good on slide though and lots of other songs work very well too. It's just horrible though what he does on Tumbling Dice and You Can't Always Get What You Want. His solo on Dead Flowers is ok imo.

@DaveG: I'll upload it and post MR in a few minutes!

Not to start the never ending Ronnie conversation again, but I really like him today too. It sounds like he's cutting raw meat with a cold knife when he does his solos. I don't mind a @#$%&-up every now and again. I have many boots and I only saw him do one REALLY STINKING bad solo. It was Don't Stop from Bangalore 2003.

And I think that if he got worse over the years, it's because they turn his volume down, and not drinking or drugs. Think about it: Of course you can't improve when you only hear yourself for solos.

I just checked and it works - very fast too, 600 Kb/s
You have to press on the "download this file" button, if not it opens as streaming audio in the browser video.

Dead Flowers

As a big RW fan I have to say I did not enjoy that solo. Druming in a band (jam only not too serious) and having played this song 100 times at least, my brother (36 years old) can easily play the solo better than this. (even drunk!)

I wish it was not so.

JKF:

"Think about it: Of course you can't improve when you only hear yourself for solos."

Ever heard of stage monitors? You obviously have no idea... Do you really think any musician in one of the biggest bands these days would play without properly hearing himself? He's got a big amp behind him, lots of monitors and some side fills too.

The reason Ronnie's playing has deteriorated is of course not the sound issue.

Sure it is. So @#$%& OFF!!!!
I bet that he can't hear himself properly. I HAVE heard of stage monitors. Of course I have. You can almost see that he can't hear himself. Sometimes he holds a chord and bangs away on this at the end of a song. He wants to hear himself. But he can't.

I am very sorry I have offended you, but I don't want to @#$%& off. Of course he can hear himself. If he couldn't he would be playing near his amp. It has to be quite loud to achieve the kind of distorted sound Ronnie has this tour. Plus there are about 50 stage monitors everywhere inside the stage.

Relax.
