T&A,

Looks like I'll have to edit another post, sorry. I thought that the jury being out meant that you hadn't decided on its ranking. My mistake.

To be clear, the intent ofmy summary-so-far post wasn't to suggest where things stand (or to validate anyone's list), but merely to suggest that the IORRers are all over the map on this one . . . once again.

I'd take it a step further and suggest that as a group we IORRers have our collective head up our ass. Or maybe that's just me...

The whole idea that TY is great is rubbish, it is such a deeply ordinairy album, doesn't even hang together, it is what it is an interesting collection from a number of years, so:

A Bigger Bang by MILES/KILOMETERS
Voodoo Lounge
Bridges to Babylon
Steel Wheels
Dirty Work
Undercover

Well, as a follow up to ER, it was a welcome relief for me. I think that SMU is great, so is Slave, Little T&A, Hang Fire works, as does Neighbors, and Black Limo.
Side Two's got Waiting on a Friend, Worried About You, and Heaven, etc. To my ears that's damn good, while not up there in the same league as SG, EOMS, SF, BB, or LIB. It's definitely in the high end of the 2nd tier of Stones albums . . . again, particularly after ER, an album that was a letdown after SG. So, it's contextual, for sure, but it still holds up with the songs I've listed above, at least in my mind.

I agree, it's overrated as an album. Start Me Up is a classic, Hang Fire, Waiting On A Friend, Little T&A and Neighbors are very good, but the other six songs do very little for me.

come on tattoo you was a return to rock&roll after a crap-ass disco album. it has to rank up there for that, even besides the 6 great songs on it.

I think its hard to compare ABB yet because its so new. I loved Voodoo Lounge when it came out and listen to it all the time. Now I hardly ever play it.

Amazing ABB is not rated as the clear Nr. 1 which it is without doubt...needs probably a couple of years....

Others are pretty dispensible.

Stripped perhaps doesn't qualify in htis survey but
it was a classic Stones album too, and I think
will stand the test of time!

It's funny when people bag on Stones "Disco Albums"--one dance tune and the whole album becomes "Disco Album". ha ha

When I was 14 I thought Emotional Rescue was a "disco album" now I listen to it and go "what??" -- 4 rockers, two ballads, a deep blues, a funky jam and one bizarre dance pop tune.

Tattoo You is great but just needs qualifying since it is really a collection--it's funny how they tried to pass it off as new material--they should have been up front--included session liner notes.
