First, I would hope that it would be a tropical island rather that a desert island. Is it possible to be on a desert island if you are surrounded by water?

In no particular order, but rather ten of my favorites:

Hot Rocks- The Rolling Stones
Stranger in Town- Bob Seger
Nevermind- Nirvana
Duke- Genesis
Volume One- Traveling Wilburys
Black and Blue- The Rolling Stones
Aja- Steely Dan
Look Sharp- Joe Jackson
Classic Yes- Yes
1962-1966- The Beatles

1 Rolling Stones - Exile (one slot per artist, or I'd be including at least 10 other Stones albums)
2 Sly & The Family Stone - There's A Riot Going On
3 Miles Davis - On the Corner (Sketches of Spain, too, - same deal as the Stones, so many gems from different periods)
4 Nirvana - MTV Unplugged
5 Captain Beefheart - Lick My Decals Off, Baby - tie: "Shiny Beast (Bat Chain Puller)"
6 Byrds - Fifth Dimension (expanded edition, plus the Sundazed double 10-inch vinyl set 'Another Dimension' - recommended to fans of 5D!)
7 Jefferson Airplane - Crown Of Creation (tie: Bless Its Pointed Little Head) -
special award for my 2nd favorite bassist, Jack Casady
8 Bo Diddley - Chess Box (supplemented by "Rare & Well Done")
9 Faces - Box Set, or 'Ooh La La', & add Rod's "Complete Mercury Recordings" box
10 Oh damn, we're out of space already! Ties:
Stooges - first 3
Velvet Underground - "Peel Slowly & See" & "1969 Live"
Howlin Wolf - Chess Box
Creedence - studio albums thru Pendulum
Lee Scratch Perry - Arkology

John R:

I'll swim to your desert isle any day--especially to hear the "5D" set.

If you like Jack Casady's bass playing, check out the CSN boxed set. For years and years, Crosby used to talk about Casady's bass playing on the demo version of "Guinnivere." Well, lo and behold, they used that version of the tune on the box. Breathtaking.

1 Exile - Stones
2. White Album - Beatles
3. Blonde On Blonde - Dylan
4. Live At The Fillmore (expanded version) - Allman Brothers
6. Layla - Derek & The Dominoes
7. Europe '72 - Grateful Dead (or Dick's Pick from that era)
8. Kind Of Blue - Miles Davis
9. Grevious Angel/G.P. Two-fer - Gram Parsons
10. Beach Boys - Pet Sounds

I tried to stick with doubles to max out my 10...but I couldn't be without Pet Sounds or Kind Of Blue.

Ross, Pet Sounds = good choice.

Also, Ross:

"Europe '72" is such an incredible album. I love the sound of that record--it's high and dry, somehow. Alpine. The sound of rock'n'roll in Colorado or Wyoming.

"Jack Straw" or "China Cat/I Know You Rider?"--so mighty.
