The original from the Respectable promo video is with Bill. Unbelievable but true: They cut him out of the picture for the Rarities cover. That's just like re-writing history. Reason enough for me not to buy it. What's your opinion?

There is no reason to believe it was not Bill who asked for this. He doesn't want to be related to the Stones anymore and I can understand he doesn't want his face on a new Stones-release!

sounds reasonable to me -
but why not use a photo that Bill wasn't in in the first place?
for me it's not a reason not to buy it, but if i buy it i'll make my own cover for it.

It's a Rarities CD from 2005. Ergo: Bill isn't on.

I won't buy it, selection of songs is not the best, it's incomplete.
Steal it !

I don't think Bill can be bothered with his picture on some obscure new release by the Stones. Do you think he would contact the stones management and ask for a bill free cover?

e.

PS Wisertime: didn't the Crowes remove Ford from the cover of Live?

Ridiculous. They DO try to re-write history. Have you seen any of those album art and concert poster reproductions that they sold during the Licks tour? On my print of the Sticky Fingers cover art there are four signatures: Jagger, Richards, Watts, and WOOD!!! Taylor's signature is not there. Wyman's signature is not there. RON WOOD'S SIGNATURE IS ON THERE!!! Do you think Taylor and Wyman ASKED them to do that?!?!

weird - really? there are only three signatures on my Exile litho, which -
well, whether Wyman and Taylor Just Said No, or the others wouldn't agree to what those two felt they should get for signing them,
it neither surprises nor bothers me.

I agree -- it's the willfully taking him out of the picture that stinks. I could understand if they selected a picture without him in it.

But he was in the band for most of the period covered... (then again, how many tracks does he actually play on? in the 70s, he was usually only on 50-75%).

The photo and the alteration doesn't bother me. They don't put me on the company picture at my old job, and I'm glad because then people would wonder if I still work there. If they want to airbrush me out of an old photo, cool, I don't want to be in there anyway. I'm sure Wyman feels the same. He goes out of his way to tell people he isn't in the Stones anymore and won't sign any Stones stuff. Good for him, like Jagger he doesn't want to dwell in the past, he moves on and lives for today.

well, it's better than them blotting Bill off the tracks he plays on on it.
but i'll make my own cover art for it anyway.

You've got one of the first edition lithos that were manufactured in the '90s. I've got a cheap, blurry, second edition of the Spanish Sticky Fingers that I bought for around $30 at a souvenir stand during the Licks tour. Ron Wood's signature was on reproductions of ALL the cover art, including Sticky Fingers and EOMS, as well as on ALL the concert tour posters, including the 1972 tour poster.

They could erase Bill's bass on all recordings and replace it by Darryl. And erase Nicky and replace it by Chuck Leavell. They could..... After all, Bill was not there on the original photos used for the postcards in Exile. I don't care about Bill on the cover or not. I Think it's good to get Through the lonely night on an official CD. Music is more important than a picture, don't you think ?
