I heard something interesting at work today. I work for Hounslow Council which is a neighbouring borough with Richmond Council where Twickenham Stadium is sited. The Stadium is right on the borough boundary and whislt any applications for licenses are addressed with Richmond, Hounslow, being so close to the stadium, are consulted as to the effects public events have on their residents, in terms of noise, traffic congestion etc.

My mate in the noise pollution team told me that he had taken a call from the licensing office at Richmond advising that the stadium had been booked and the relevant paperwork completed in order to present two concerts on the 17th & 18th June 2006.

I hope I am not jumping ahead but I'm sure its got to be the Stones. U2 have already toured, Oasis are proabably big enough to fill it but they are winding down their current tour. I can't think of anyone else whose popularity is such that they can sell out two nights at Twickenham.

I personally was hoping they would play the new Wembley, but it looks like it might be seats on the floor again.

I'm really disssapointed although it was a great event last time, lets fgace it, the view is poor and the transport/ local accomodation aint up to wembley standards.

World cup? Sorry I am not that big football fan but isn't the final in Berlin on July 9 next year? The Twickenham shows are scheduled for mid August.

oh..I misunderstood your post..when you said "thats what I heard too" I thought you were agreeing with the theory that the dates for Twickenham was 17/18 June (I was almost booking my hotel there!)

Yeah, the final is indeed in Berlin on 9.7.06 but in some countries its harder to sell tickets when the tournament is going on

the smart money seemes to be on August for Twickers OK

Also, some artists provisionally book extra nights with the option of extra shows in case the first night sells quickly. Doesnt necessarily mean they'll use the place for both nights

They were actually supposed to play two nights in a row at Twickenham during Licks tour, but had to postpone the first show due to Mick having a sore throat.
I was hoping they'd play at the new Wembley stadium instead, since it's better situated and I also detest the idea of having chairs on the floor level.

I had tickets for them both...!

Mick was told by his doctors after they postponed the 2nd of two back to back shows in Amsterdam a few days earlier NOT to sing on two successive nights anymore

Thats why twickenham was rescheduled - as was one of the Wembley shows 3 weeks later (was meant to be 14th and 15th September, but at a weeks notice they brought the first show forward by 24 hours..)

sorry I,m confused. Is likely to be wembly or twickers 17th june???

neither - thunderball posted that there is a license for shows at TWICKENHAM that weekend but it appears unlikely that its the Stones

Twickenham more likely to be August

and the Stones wont be playing back to back shows on 17th AND 18th June

This means that the 'floor' section of the stadium will be seated, like the North American Stadium shows.

Well hell yeah, why ever not ? Had one in 2003 for when they came around on the Licks tour, and dare I say I'll be having another one when they come around one more time on this tour !

If it is not The Stones that have booked these dates then it is unlikely they will be play Twickenham at all. Under the terms of their license the stadium can only host a maximum of three concerts per year. The Stones could of course just play the one night, however this would be unlikely.

Maybe Wembley after all?

They will announce the Europe tour late November / sell tickets in December, so they already booking arenas / stadiums....

Those dates will be for Robbie Williams, with probably about ten more being added.

Such is the state of music...
