Keef & The King of Heartbreak

having listened to "Say It's Not You"(duet with George Jones) from the Bradley Barn Sessions lately, i keep wondering how great it would be to have a "favorite country covers" cd by Keith...his pipes are now primed (from drugs, cigs & stones living in general) for a country cd...and his country phrasing is damn fine!...for whoever cares.. what y'all think?

I love his country stuff - We Had It All and the Hank Williams cover from the Negresco Hotel. Keith's tastes in music are great and wide - much better than his tastes in food I hear.

I've mentioned it before on this board but his duet with Willie Nelson ("We Had It All") is shockingly good and even my wife, who usually hates his singing, thinks it's great.

Hi Leonard,

I have often suggested exactly the same. (Great minds think alike)

some other Great Mind (unless that was you!) asked Keith about this on that Ask Keith gizmo on his website.
he didn't say yes and he didn't say no

Great idea! Keith has always had a reverance for Country, whereas Mick seems to think it's a joke (Dear Doctor, Far Away Eyes, etc.). I've always thought the Stones could have also been the World's Greatesy Country Band had they so desired.

You got it Elmo!....but i forgive Mick because of "through the lonely nights" & "evening gown" & "dead flowers"

Right on, LK, I listened to Evening Gown yesterday - what a great song. BTW, wouldn't the best songs from Mick's and Keith's solo CD's have made a double CD worthy of being mentioned with the immortal (and immoral) Exile?

Say It's Not You and We Had it All are classics - I think those are the kind of songs KR had in mind with TPIE - unfortunately, he wasn't able to hit the target with it.

LK, you speak great wisdom. Have you been visiting the Keithfucius shrine on the Rocks Off board? There's more great wisdom there!

P. S. Are you Yoda?

Faraway Eyes...that song still makes me laugh.

Anyway, Keith has a great country voice...and a jazz voice...and a blues voice...sadly, everything BUT rock nowadays.

That's not that sad - I like that Keith as much as I liked the 60's Keith or the 70's Keith or the 80's Keith. And Keith came up with Rough Justice - that's quite a rock song.

Great idea, since Keith apparently can't or won't sing rockers anymore. But as gwen pointed out, he wrote Rough Justice, the best rocker and the best song period on ABB!
