The "Shane Fenton" mentioned later became Alvin Stardust and had some hits in the 1970s in the UK. His son is headmaster of a public (ie fee-paying) school in England.

In Keith's book Life it says that the letter was written in April 1962. That would be the same month Mick and Keith met with Brian in the Ealing Jazz Club. A rare performance photo exists that confirms that meeting. Alexis Korner invited young musicians to give it a go on the "stage" of the EJC and so did the nuclious of the near future Rollin' Stones with "the help" of a couple other musicians (sax, guitar). In Life it says that only several weeks later the Stones did their first ever gig in the Marquee Club, but in fact it was almost three months later.
During those months rehearsals with different musicians took place in the Bricklayers Arms Pub (second floor) and that story most of us know.

For people who love obscure information....

Shane Fenton (real name Eden Kane) was one of three brothers who each separately had No1 hits in the UK.

Shane as Alvin Stardust.

Peter as Peter Sarsted - "Where do you go to my lovely"

Robin as Robin Sarsted - "My resistance is low"

That sort of information may win you a Pub Quiz one evening and you'll thank me for it!
