My wife wants to get me something for my birthday. She asked me to choose. I was thinking about this book. What do you all think? The author is Philippe Margotin.

I don't think its a bit weird and I think it rates right up there with the Stones greatest songs. Its deep and its intellectual, maybe that's the problem, and I think the lyrics are brilliant, it depicts the alienation of people so well, so much better than most of Dylans post-blonde-on-blonde schtick.
And as usual Mr Rockman has it right on the methelated sandwich, its referring to tramp culture. Certainly NOT a healthy sandwich...I wonder how anyone even figures that given the context and picture painted by the other lyrics.

Common for tramps to consume
mentholated spirits by dipping it in bread .....
At the camp of a work site I was living at
one of the old guys use to heat up tins of
shoe polish and dip bread in it to get the alcohol ....
I don't know if it does or not, but that sure sounds like David Sanborn, who played on Pretty Beat Up. His shrill tone is recognizable. I'm not a fan of it.Quote

.....no not really ....
Charlie establishes a subtle groove that
is simple sounding but highly effective.
He is accompanied on bass by Bill whose
playing is equally precise and solid ......
