OT: Overlooked musical pioneers

I don't think I'd call all of these folks overlooked. The video featuring Alvino Rey is not to be overlooked. Jimmy Page surely listened to a lot of John Fahey and was influenced by him. Some of the others are out there.

I agree, the geezer's a genius and I can listen to his Music all week long.

1000 $ Wedding, In My Hour Of Darkness, Kiss The Children (What a tune!!), Return of The G A etc etc are stuff that overwhelms most people when I play it to 'em.

Fair list .....

Ronnie tmentions in an interview from somewhere
around the 80's how Keith turned him onto Blind Willie McTell

Never got much from Legendary Stardust Cowboy
esp when there was Hasel Adkins and Harmonica
Frank Floyd knocking out that kinda stuff in the 50's ....

Roy Wood is a very overlooked singer-songwriter and guitarist. He wrote so many great pop-rock songs: Fire Brigade, Wild Tiger Woman, See My Baby Jive, etc. He definitely doesn’t get the credit he deserves.

Pioneers? I dunno -- some interesting players and artists but just a hodge podge really. People love their lists....

Sister Rosetta Tharpe

"Sister Rosetta augmented her commanding vocals with a stinging guitar sound that influenced countless guitar heroes. When compared to male guitarists of her day, she'd proclaim,
“Can't no man play like me. I play better than a man”.

What about Lonnie Donegan, the King of Skiffle. I personally don't know any of his music but I've seen his name mentioned over the years as a person who influenced many of the British rock bands of the 60s.
I remember seeing an interview with Jimmy Page and he mentioned him, perhaps the first time I heard his name. McCartney said the Beatles studied his records, Brian May said he was at the very cornerstone of English Blues and rock. Others from Roger Daltrey to Mark Knopfler and Al Stewart have said he's a major influence. At the Brit Awards, during Jack White's acceptance speech, he said Remember Lonnie Donegan started it for you.

It's very difficult to say who is a pioneer, you have to ask the pioneers who influenced them, if there is no one they are a pioneer ;o)
