All bands may tour the state of Texas now. There are no covid-19 rules in Texas now, right? Then the rest of the world may learn from the great human experiment involving all 29 million people living in Texas USA, how it is turning out, three months on from now.

NYC's Penn Station sees 600,000 people PER DAY....EVERY DAY. Should Penn Station be "No Vax, No Entry" too?

Everybody in the entire society will be subjected to un-vaccinated people every day once we get back to "normal"...what makes concert workers so special?

we can't force people to get vaccinated, so my point remains: should we start down a slippery slope of applying this policy to other places too?

The obvious difference between the street and a concert is that a concert is a private event where the rules are set by the organizers, like ticket prices, no smoking, mandatory shoes (no shirt, no service), no alcohol, etc...and if they decide that it's "no vax, no entry" that's it, end of story. Not happy about that rule ? There's an easy fix, don't go !

Can't see concerts resuming for a long time without that kind of strict rule.

That might actually be better for business especially since those who are refusing to get vaccinated in the US are generally the dumb white dudes who get drunk and cause problems at shows.

Concerts Were Wiped Out During Covid-19. Here’s When They Could Come Back
Widespread vaccinations and warmer weather could mean outdoor concerts this summer, with possible indoor shows later in the fall

Fans could be back at concerts this summer.

Those new projections from music-business leaders are a relief for fans like Jorge Ramos, who has been using Google Docs to track the 20 concerts and four festivals—most postponed or canceled—he bought tickets for before and during the pandemic. The 24-year-old has faithfully held on to tickets for shows that were pushed to an unknown future date (like the Rolling Stones), or back a year (My Chemical Romance, Kiss).

The concert business is counting on avid fans like Mr. Ramos to spark a hoped-for restart this summer and fall after a long, painful pause. Industry executives, who are quick to note their business was among the first to shut down because of Covid-19 and likely among the last to come back, are cautiously plotting a gradual return to live shows as infections appear to subside and vaccination rates rise.

On Live Nation Entertainment Inc.’s earnings conference call Thursday, Chief Executive Michael Rapino told investors the world’s largest concert promoter thinks it can begin staging outdoor amphitheater shows by midsummer. Jay Marciano, chief executive of rival AEG Presents, said he believes full-capacity club and theater shows will be possible this fall.

The comments reflect growing optimism about the availability of vaccines across the U.S. On Tuesday, President Biden said he expects the country to have enough vaccines for all adults by the end of May. Meanwhile, there are moves by states such as Texas to reopen fully, dropping mask mandates and limits on gathering sizes.
Global revenue from concerts, on a tear before the pandemic, rose to $26.1 billion in 2019 before falling to $6.5 billion in 2020.

Chris Tetzeli, partner at Denver-based artist management company 7S Management, said one of his acts spent months considering whether to scrap their 2021 dates. “This week we said, ‘Maybe we should hold on,’ ” he said. “We have more confidence that this will happen.”

Jeffrey Hasson, senior agent on United Talent Agency’s Nashville music-leadership team, said he is optimistic that outdoor tours can happen this summer.

“A couple months ago I wasn’t sure if it was even remotely possible,” music manager Emily Lichter said of the Red Rocks Amphitheatre show that Lake Street Dive is slated to play at the end of September in Colorado. “Now I feel like, wow, that could happen.”

“Within the next month we’re going to see more and more things announced for summer and fall,” he added.

Other states are getting close to that insanity also, but Texas will be the one to watch. And then there's the various concert promoters, management, etc. where a majority sound more like wishful thinking campaigns and salesmen vs. reality. Sure they're going to sound hopeful as their livelihoods depend on it, but still seems they're putting the cart before the horse. Might get messy for tour organizers when one state requires vaccinations and/or proof of negative tests, while another state such as Texas requires nothing and is basically a free for all. And with more and more states possibly following in Texas' footsteps, seems it will be more and more difficult for tours to get insurance. Eventually things should work themselves out, but to put a timeline and give dates seems premature. Even President Biden was extra- cautionary with his optimism and hopeful goals, pleading for people to get vaccinated and follow the rules to help make this work. I don't think he'll be buying any concert tickets at any type of venues any time soon...not until there's much more science telling him it's safe.

The promoters set the requirements for entry. It’s private business. Vaccinated attendees are what the insurers are looking for.

As you stated in your previous post "Unfortunately the push back from so many in the States on getting vaccinated has made the tour insurers nervous".

Yes, that is unfortunate, and hopefully things will change for the better sooner rather than later.

As the old saying goes "what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas", and hope that would also include the surge in coronavirus cases that will probably result from the latest ease on restrictions.
Unfortunately millions of people come and go to Vegas unchecked from all corners of the world 24/7...it could possibly become a "super spreader" to the highest degree.

The risk of getting Covid or Flu depends on how close you are to people for how long. Walking past some people for 2 or 3 minutes, perhaps with a mask, is much lower risk that standing/dancing/singing/shouting in a gig. Worse inside than outside.

Here in the UK, Festivals look like they will be going ahead by late summer. But every adult will be vaccinated by then - at least those people who believe the science rather than some superstitious shite. You might get ill, but are very, very unlikely to end up in hospital or dead. Normal risks we have always taken in life.

I suspect indoors masks will be needed - on trains, planes, in bars etc for some time. But outdoors, especially if vaccines are made compulsory, then I think live returns to normal when >90% of adults have the vaccine.

For the Stones, as they can ensure they and their whole team are vaccinated, the issue will be insurance cover and local rules on big gatherings.

Well said.

Routing the current tour on the books would likely be feasible for the fall, but also means waiting to announce and sell tix for only a short period before it launches.

Has me thinking a residency or a series of multi-night outdoor concerts would be a good way to get on with the 14 or so shows.
Two nights in seven different cities for late summer/fall would be fantastic- cool smiley 2 Vancouver, 2 Nashville, 2 Austin, 2 San Diego, 2 NY, 2 Red Rocks (filmed/taped for a release) and 2 Las Vegas.

Meanhwile in California, restrictions continue to rapidly loosen up with restaurants being allowed limited indoor dining again this week, and high school football games being allowed to take place.
This all happening amidst the recall effort of the CA Governor and his attempt to divert attention, but looks like the 2,000,000 signature criteria has been met to have him possibly removed and replaced.
Not saying the alternative choices or replacements will be any better, but it's nice to see the peoples voices heard, and have the ability to dispose of the corruption.
Last time there was a recall back in 2003, Arnold Schwarzenegger ended up as the Governor here - seemed like a joke at the time, but in hindsight wasn't all that bad.
Pretty sure I saw Arnold 'The Governator' at a Stones show somewhere in California back around that time - maybe the new/replacement Governor will attend an upcoming show if there is one in CA?

Take into account the new wave coming from the new variants. They are a lot more infectious, they grow rapidly among children and younger people, entire families, and they lead to more people in hospital. There is no way any larger country in the world like UK or USA will be able to be covid-19 free in 2021. Hopefully we may see a Stones tour in 2022.

2 questions on this topic. Do we have a non Fox News (NY Post owned by Rupert Murdoch's empire) to be sure this is credible and is there even vaccines in Also- Mexico at this point in time?

Yeah.. the right are trying so hard to drum up nonsense like this.
And their cult audience are all too anxious to spread it without fact checking.

Also- Mexico has vaccinated about 3.0% of their population.. rough going for countries that don't manufacture their own vaccine(s.

Fact-check: Is the Biden administration releasing 'hundreds' of infected migrants into Texas?

Greg Abbott: “The Biden Administration is recklessly releasing hundreds of illegal immigrants who have COVID into Texas communities.”

PolitiFact's ruling: Mostly False

Here's why: One day after Gov. Greg Abbott announced he would lift the statewide mask mandate and allow all businesses to open to 100% capacity, the governor turned his attention to the coronavirus spreading along the Texas-Mexico border.

“The Biden Administration is recklessly releasing hundreds of illegal immigrants who have COVID into Texas communities,” the governor said in a tweet. “The Biden Admin. must IMMEDIATELY end this callous act that exposes Texans & Americans to COVID.”
According to a March 2 NBC News article, 108 asylum seekers in Brownsville had tested positive for COVID-19 by rapid testing while waiting to board busses destined for other U.S. cities. The city of Brownsville conducts these tests on migrants after they are released by U.S. Customs and Border Protection. As of March 2, the 108 positive cases represented about 6% of all tests the city had administered since Jan. 25, when local officials began testing migrants dropped off by the Border Patrol.
While the city can refer these migrants testing positive to non-governmental organizations for quarantining, it does not have the authority to stop people from traveling throughout the country.
The NBC News article was picked up by Fox News and the New York Post the next day and prompted Abbott to tweet about his concern over COVID-positive migrants endangering Texas communities.

Abbott continued this line of attack in the subsequent days, first during a TV interview with KPRC-TV in Houston, then in an interview with CNBC, and again in another tweet in which he said the state denied the federal government’s request for help in screening, testing and quarantining migrants. Testing migrants is the federal government’s responsibility, Abbott said. And in a Tuesday news conference at the border, Abbott urged the Biden administration to increase U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement funding, which is responsible for testing and detaining anyone crossing the border.

A negative coronavirus test is required by the federal government before entry to the U.S. While U.S. Customs and Border Protection conducts screenings, “suspected COVID-19 cases are referred to local health systems for appropriate testing, diagnosis, and treatment,” the agency said in a statement.

Felipe Romero, a spokesperson for the city of Brownsville, confirmed that the city was rapid testing each person Border Patrol dropped off at the city’s bus terminal. The 108 positive cases reported by NBC News on March 2 had climbed to 204 Tuesday, or about 12% of the total number of people tested.

Romero said that there are two categories of migrants who are being released to the city’s bus terminal: asylum seekers entering after the repeal of the Trump administration’s Remain in Mexico policy, and those who have been apprehended at the border and allowed to remain in the country pending immigration court hearings, a policy derogatorily described by critics as “catch and release.”

Let’s look closely at each category to determine the accuracy of Abbott’s tweet.

Biden policies allowing migrants to remain in the U.S.

In February, the Biden administration announced that it was dismantling many of the immigration policies put in place by former President Donald Trump. The first phase of reform began by processing the 25,000 asylum seekers who had been forced to remain in Mexico under Trump’s Migrant Protection Protocols.

On Feb. 19, federal authorities began processing up to 300 people per day at three different border crossings — two in Texas, in Brownsville and El Paso, and one in California, according to the Associated Press.

Because Abbott’s statement focuses on the release of “hundreds of illegal immigrants” in Texas, this fact-check focuses on the crossings in Brownsville and El Paso. While the city of Brownsville reported 108 positive cases among migrants released by Border Patrol, the city of El Paso said that zero positive cases have been identified through its rapid testing program. El Paso’s tests are being supplied by the city and administered by non-governmental organizations, a city spokesperson said.
The second major policy shift releasing migrants in Texas communities is the reintroduction of the Obama-era policy that allows asylum seekers to remain in the U.S. while awaiting court dates. That policy was suspended by the Trump administration in 2018. The revived policy allows some families who are apprehended by Border Patrol to be released in the U.S. as they await their asylum proceedings. However, not all apprehended migrants are awarded this privilege; many are expelled to their origin countries.

While asylum seekers formerly held under the remain in Mexico policy are processed in specific communities, those who are released under the revived Obama-era policy could be released anywhere along the border. However, the number of tests administered to people released under this policy is unknown and, according to Border Report, there are concerns that not all are being tested before they travel elsewhere in the U.S. to await court dates.

It’s unclear what actual numbers form the basis of Abbott’s claim that “hundreds of illegal immigrants” carrying COVID-19 are being released in Texas. A spokesperson referred us to the 108 migrants in Brownsville reported by NBC News and did not respond to questions asking how Abbott arrived at his estimation of “hundreds.”

‘Illegal immigrants’ vs asylum seekers

Abbott’s statement mischaracterizes the status of migrants who are being released into U.S. communities by U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

“Illegal immigrants” are migrants who have entered the country without legal permission. All of the migrants being released by U.S. Customs and Border Protection, on the other hand, have applied for asylum and have a legal claim to remain in the U.S. while they await their asylum proceedings.

Using the two terms interchangeably is inaccurate, said Andrea Meza, director of family detention services for Refugee and Immigrant Center for Education and Legal Services, or RAICES.

“These folks are asylum seekers, so criminalizing them based on their manner of entry, which is not related to their legal ability to seek asylum, is misleading,” Meza said.

Our ruling

Abbott said that the Biden administration is releasing “hundreds of illegal immigrants” infected with COVID-19 into Texas communities.

A spokesperson said that the claim was based on news articles reporting that 108 migrants released by Border Patrol had tested positive in Brownsville. While that number has risen beyond 200 positive cases since then, it was well below “hundreds” at the time of Abbott’s tweet.

Abbott also mischaracterizes the status of the migrants being released by U.S. Customs and Border Protection by calling them “illegal immigrants.” They are asylum seekers holding notices to appear in court.

We rate this claim Mostly False.

CNN is fake news!

Keep in mind that Fox News is an opinion show, with mostly wrong (factless) opinions, there are no journalists and... it's not factual. It's heavily biased with its blithering ficiton. The don't need to admit their mistakes because the entire thing is a mistake. CNN admits some of their mistakes but it is heavily biased.

That aside, the only time CNN is reliable is when ALL the other legit news sources have reported on something. CNN fake news? In the realistic world of facts, not really. It is to people that believe everything from The Murdoch Channel, which is no different than using Worldometer as a source for information.

On to the subject at hand... more and more artists/bands are moving rescheduled dates to 2022 and dates that will be cancelled will be refunded. So far there are still summer dates for some acts that have not been moved to 2022. One page that lists touring acts has zero dates for the Stones in 2021.

One of the postponed/rescheduled shows my wife and I had tix for but immediately opted for refunds last year is Steely Dan and Steve Winwood at the Hollywood Bowl.
Originally secheduled for June 8, 2020, then postpostponed to June 8, 2021...not a chance it will happen considering all the facts and the current unknown status of the pandemic.
Wondering if they'll attempt to reschedule again to June 2022, or simply cancel as other bands have eventually ended up doing such as The Who.
Would have been an excellent show in that setting, but alas not meant to be and thankfully we've seen them both multiple times.

I'm curious to see who says the hell with it after this year with more shows pushed to 2022 or cancelled. Although for the older acts it could be good for them. It's a weird thing, though, this "pause" - getting old seems to accelerate more so when it really hits, based on observations of some older friends as well as my grandparents, who appeared to age about 20 years in 3 when they got about 80.

Which brings us back on topic to the Stones and their future....

I was watching news footage of The Pope in the Middle East last week, and at 84 he's not much older than the Stones age-wise, but man...he appeared much more older physically when compared to the Stones.
I imagine by the time they all hit 84, the age will be much more noticeable than it is now...Charlie's not too far off, and Keith almost already appears that way. Hope they can get some more shows in sooner rather than later.

I have had a bunch of refunds the last month. The biggest disappointment was the autism benefit with Neil Young, Stephen Stills and Willie Nelson. Had the perfect taping seats since I had a presale before the presale and when I picked my 4 seats only 8 in the front had been claimed. Those 3 are getting up there and despite seeing them all I wanted another shot. Only one of the cancellations was postponed. I still have Clapton in May at Royal Albert Hall which aren't officially postponed yet but can't happen based on Covid restrictions.

Has it been a year already since they postponed? It was around this date.
