Right now they are in pdf format, but if there is time, they may be changed into a more flexible format, also working well on smaller devices. If there is a demand for a more flexible format then I will look into it sooner, it is a matter of scaling html pages.

But to follow Schillid, yes it contains incorrect information at places. For one thing ... John Pasche did NOT receive 26.000 Pounds for selling copyright to the Stones!!! The copyright was with the Stones from the very beginning. However, he did sell his hardware art to the V&A museum.
Also the copyright for Braun's Licks version (eyeless) was with the Stones right from the beginning. Braun had a deal with the Stones that he could commercialise his (eyeless) version for a couple of years.
The USA (or most famous) version, refered to as official logo, has been Stones property right from the beginning once it was approved by Mick.

Wouldn't change Exile's cover, but really like the Man Ray design. With updated photo's as he likely intended, I wonder if his design would have held up as well over time. Probably not as his design has a mid-century modern feel, while Frank's work has a more timeless look imo, but Ray's would have been iconic no doubt.

An interesting analysis of the the Beggar's Banquet inner sleeve photograph. It was Mick's idea to use the highlighted colours on parts of the image. And his biting into the green apple, presented on the end of Keith's knife, was likely a reference to the Beatle's Apple label. Well well!

that's some great stuff there, was just reading about my hero, Man Ray, doing a cover for Exile on Main St. I didn't know that before.

There is something I need clarifying though, quote from the write up:

"Bill Wyman says Marshall Chess wrote the band, saying, 'Hopefully, Man Ray will have seen you and will have come up with some ideas for a cover before you leave for America, Mick told me he conveniently changed his price from $1,000 which he had quoted me, to $5,000 for the Stones album cover.'"


Why would Mick be changing the price for the cover? Didn't you mean Man Ray changed the price to the Stones? And hence did not get the contract? Would make more sense to me that way.

I don't know if anyone is paying attention, but I think the write up for Get Yer Ya Yas Out says, right in the first sentence, that the "First Annual West Palm Beach International Music and Arts Festival" appearance was on November 11th. That cannot be correct? Wasn't that the weekend before Altamont? November 30?

Or am I incorrect here?

Really interesting reading though, no disrespect meant.

In a way.

First off, it wasn't the "first annual" since it was the first one ie the inaugural, so, in order for a first annual it requires a second one, which never happened.

That typical American stupidity aside, it was November 28-30, 1969.

I went to a Sagmeister exhibition in Paris many years ago and there was the original "collage" for the cover art.Took pics of it.
I have to dig through my archives to find it.
