Re: If the Stones never existed who would you be obsessed with?

If the Stones never existed, it would be a strange world . . . . the Beatles would have ruled popular music, and there would have been no one to introduce the wider public to R&B. Herman's Hermits remains the greatest challenger to the Beatles crown, with the Beach Boys and the Hollies close behind. "Heavier" groups like Jeff Beck Group, Bluesbreakers, etc., never catch on. As a result, the "metal" movement never has any steam, and Led Zepplin, Cream, etc., never get formed.
"Black music" means the Fifth Dimension, the Supremes and the Jackson 5. In the 70's, R&B becomes viewed as "historical african american music", and the radio is dominated by Eric Carmen, Captain & Tenille and Tony Orlando & Dawn. In the 80's and 90's "veteran" groups go on tours where they play all of their hits over the years, like Bread and their "Forty Sticks" tour. In the 90's there is no grunge to challenge disco-pop, and "roots" bands like Aerosmith, AC/DC and Bon Jovi, play small blues conventions in small towns across the globe.
In this world, there wouldn't be much to be obsessed about except, perhaps, Lisa Fisher's rear end.
