been there once, in 1994, tried in vain to find a restaurant that was opened on a sunday november evening, as we walked down 6th avenue.

spent about 30 minutes looking, all were shut.

had to take a taxi to little italy found a place that was opened but was empty inside.

the big apple sure had a big sleep that might.

I took a photo on the street corner too!! I went down there to try and figure out what was so special about it to use as a song lyric. A couple hundred feet up the street is "Electric Lady Studios" which is where they did mixing and overdubbing for EMOTIONAL RESCUE!!

The chorus refers to actress Candy Darling and her friend Taffy, who the Rolling Stones had previously met at the Hotel Albert in New York City. According to Darling:

"We met them in the Hotel Albert. We were on the floor above them and we dangled a bunch of grapes down on a string outside their window. You see, the Citadel is New York and the song is a message to us – Taffy and me."

"Under the Boardwalk" could be NY.
Does "Memo" mention NY?
And "Extreme Western Grip" of course; some deep poetry in that one. I always gets lost between verse 1 aNd verse 2 there.

What is interesting if you go through the discography and corresponding lyrics chronologically, you see that the very early lyrics are either based in deep south, or rooted in London. And the ones re. US are by proxy. Then around '66, after we know they've been around the world a time or two, you notice personal road and worldwide experiences creeping into the lyrics.
