Q:s for Wyman
Posted by: Baboon Bro ()
Date: October 14, 2005 23:47

Hey buddies & Stones-nerds!

Yup, Ooool´ Baboon´s gonna interview
even older geezer Billy Wyman on Monday.
Its gonna be a telephone interview.

- Can you give me some serious questions...?

I´m not so found of ideas on Stones-questions.
If you´re goin to come up with such, please be clever.

I´ll tell ya all in this thread when its gonna be broadcasted.
Stay alert 11.00 CET on Monday; there might be a live one,
but the most plausible is that its aired some days afterwards.

Ask him if the Elvis tribute with Scotty Moore is going ahead ok, 'cause Amazon told me it was cancelled....

Now that´s a good one. Thanks trillions!
Maybe you have some more in the same style, Han?

I hope I can make two separate interviews, one for a
Stones fan magazine & one for my retro radio station.

Hope to be able to establish contact later at night after the concert.

I´d try to express the collective thankfulness we share here;
as I got it Bill is still very deer to the bunch of hooligans
hangin out at this board.

...More Q:s, please!

Re: Q:s for Wyman

1. Has he seen the Stones play since he left the band?

2. Does he ever talk to any of the guys in the band anymore?

3. Is this his last tour with the Rhythm Kings or will he do more?

4. Does he listen to any new music and if so what newer artists does he like?

5. What are his top three or four favorite (non-Stones) songs of all time?

Re: Q:s for Wyman

Yes:

Is he going to write/publish the 2nd part of his auto-biography, or did 'Rolling with The Stones" fill that void? (First part was "Stone Alone", 1990).

Also, has he recently considered, or been contacted by the Stones to compile a album of previously unreleased studio track (like another "Black Box").

1. Has he seen the Stones play since he left the

2. Does he ever talk to any of the guys in the
band anymore? Heres a borderline case... - May be a tricky one.

3. Is this his last tour with the Rhythm Kings or
will he do more? - I may ask something like that.

4. Does he listen to any new music and if so what
newer artists does he like? - Good one, too. havbe thought of it myself.

5. What are his top three or four favorite
(non-Stones) songs of all time? - I may ask it off-record, and let him think it over during the 7-8 hours from the interview to the concert; and then maybe
- if I succeed in gettin a decent conncetion - ask him again, if he came up with some songs. WOuld maybe be some of the songs they perform/cover.

well the answer to the first two is 'yes' - he was at one of the Wembley Voodoo Lounge shows in 1995 and he's still in regular contact with Charlie & Ronnie at least

Congratulations on getting to interview Bill - how did you pull that one off?

We met Bill in Riga/Latvia one week ago. He was chatty and very relaxed. Here are some pics:

Last 2 pics is my wife interviewing Bill :-)

Thanx billions, Exile Latvian!!! nice to see & useful in the business of mine.

To Gary my answer is - professional help from my fellow-
radio stationeers, loads of phone calls to the manager etc.
...I believe our mysterious Ove Tingvall will be involved in some way thru another phone interview (probably not made by me).

They have tremendous distances to go thru Finland-Sweden- Mid-Norway;
so they seem to get a little more restricted against interviews here than they have been slong parts of Eastern Europe. Guess he will be in Umeå or on his way to (where I will sit: ) Sundsvall while I´m chatting.
I may bring my copy (thanx Magnus!) of Rolling With The Stones for a little signing. Maybe some following-up after the concert.

I´m struck by the places their visiting: Tampere, well, not so small...
Boden: 30,000 inhabitants... Sunndal in Norway, not much more than a fly´s
spot [www.sunndal.com] (tourist info in English) .

Sunndal/Sunndalsöra - One of the most beatiful places I´ve ever been to.

...Now I´m gonna print the suggestions & have a cozy time in my sofa.
Tomorrow I count with reading Doxa´s review from Tampere. Thanx all & nightnighty!

Congratulations to you too.

Yep, Finland. Of course it´s not about competition, I just wanted to tease you a bit smiling smiley
Our member Juha who is a radio DJ by profession knows Bill since back in the early 80:s. So they showed pics of their kids to each other backstage, and Juha interviewd him. Maybe I´ll put a transcript of the interview up on our site in the near future.

If you are interested in some really obscure filmfootage of the Stones in Malmö 1965, look in our Newssection, I´ll promise you something you never seen before.

Of course I´ll check than 65-thing up, but then "zzzzz".
It seems that Bill has made some friends up here along the years;
and I see he has done some touring around our frostbitten part of
the world with the Riddem Kings.

Many nice little interview snippes at Bill´s own page too

How do you know?
...No; I wont see Taylor at all.
And I will not take a cab to Västerås!!! grinning smiley
Wouldnt have sen Wyman either if I wasnt to be
accredited (wosh, is that really English?)...
Why do you think I´m in the radio biz?

Up here one rarely sees anything...
But Taylor played Sundsvall in 2001.
And Hendrix in... 69?
Johnny Thunders in 83.
And a few others hot shots... Yeah! Sham 69, 1981 I believe.

Well, Taylor will start his tour here in Gothenburg at Sticky Fingers..
We won´t repeat last years success when we hired a guy to drive us 400 kilometers to se Taylor the day after we saw him in Stockholm, and payed him 400 euros for the ride smiling smiley But hey, we´re Taylorfans, so don´t bet against it smiling smiley

Speakin of startin tour; I wonder if there are anyone from Boden on this
board. How in Earth´s name could Bill´s administration figure thay should play there?? Ok; they have Mahattma Åhlström Band, but...

You know Bill is playing Sunndalsøra AND Surnadalsøra. In Norway. Those are two small villages separated by a ferry ride and some tall mountains deep into the fjords of mid Norway (Nordmøre). Postcard places packed with tourists in the summer. My sister lives there and these small places are so close it is unbelievable he does both. Unfortunately I am seing another band Bill used to play in when he is there, but I will see Bill in a real club show in Hønefoss Norway a few days later on. Plus big city shows in Oslo and Drammen of course. Hønefoss is a late add-on to the show and Bill probably don't know what place they are going to. Not the center of the universe but certainly high density of Stones fans!

A friend of mine made a 30 minutes tv-interview with Bill on thursday (he even got me a dedicated autograph) before he played at the Culture house in Helsingfors (great concert). The interview will be broadcasted on finnish television next saturday (or in two weeks).

According to my friend he takes tea with Charlie three times a week. Á few days ago Charlie sent him a letter and a box with some Stones stuff from the ABB-tour, The letter was signed "Charlie Watts - drummer of the Rolling Stones", which Bill found incredibly sweet.

I've got a tip for you: don't bring up the Stones. Just don't. He doesn't like that. You're talking to the bass player of the Rhythm Kings, not the ex-bass player of the Stones. He's very anti-Stones. He hates them, especially Keith. In his interviews, he makes very sarcastic remarks about them. Just ask him to tell you a little more about his new live album, that kind of stuff.

Also, dig up old Bill interviews, so you can see what he's like. DON'T ask the same questions like "HEY BILL HEHE WHY DID YOU LEAVE THE STONES MAN!!??" or "WOULD YOU DO A SUPRISE GIG WITH THE STONES?!?!?" because he'd get annoyed. He likes it when people are interessted in his books, CD's, anything. He's always happy to sign all of his stuff, but he doesn't signt Stones stuff. Not why he left the Stones.

And the suprise gig, forget it. It's not so much he'd hate to do it, but Keith definetly won't let it happen. He hates Bill for leaving.

Goodluck interviewing, you lucky bastard.

My friend actually told me that he talked about the Stones most of the time, without even beeing asked about them. He saíd he get along well with them, visits their concerts, joining them backstage etc.

Well, I'm guessing you're from Sundsvall or thereabout?
Not exactly a world metropol either, right? So you could be asking what the hell he is doing there too… Personally I’m very pleased that someone actually comes to these parts of the country, a nice change to NOT having to travel to Stockholm or Gothenburg just to enjoy a gig… I will however try to give a short review of this highly anticipated Sweden premiere from the dark hellhole of northern Sweden where, apparently, absolutely no one lives…

Another question you could ask is:
Seeing that Freddie has better musical taste than most of the England team, am I right in assuming it was his own idea to ask the Rhythm Kings to play at his wedding reception; and did Bill enjoy it? (This is something I'd like to know, even if no one else would; and Bill will understand the question, even if no one else does)

Also, was Charlie disappointed at missing the Ashes?

Karrob! Sorry if I have offended your (Bodensian) heart!!
But according to some logical framework, Luleå would have been a more
natural gig-location than Boden? Funny anhyhow.
I´m sorry my love-hate relationship to the town I did my military service in
did got thru; and neither the irony seems to have.
Boden is music-wise one of the coolest towns there is in Northern Scandinavia.
It beats the sh*t of Umeå any day; only Kiruna can be compared to Boden.

BTW it was Mahattma Åhlström Band that spend a night in my parents house
(plus the audience)... Posted about it a while ago.
That Santana/Little Feat/Lowell George-influenced vocalist & founder Mr. Tapper
is one of the most impressing musicians there is in Sweden, no doubt & no kiddin.
He saved my sanity during mil. service.

And Sundsvall sure is the Centre of the Universe...smiling smiley
Ask the ever-so-cool Sundsvallers, the dwellers of that megacity.
Note: This is irony, partly also self-irony. Ok?
Myself live in a microscopic black hole 50 km North from that Metropolis.

Thing is, Wyman is - this goes for the Nordic/Scandinavian countries -
out playin in small towns... So why he bumps into Tonhallen, Sundsvall in a city with 100,000 inhabitants & some 180, 000 within 50 km is more a question in the style of 'why all of a sudden in that big city'.

Nice to read that Charlie story.

Questions for bill:

How much for a plate of fish & chips at his restaurant?

Has he ever hit on one of his waitresses?

Has he ever danced...even slow dancing?

He was cut out of the Stones publishing income, but did he get an equal 25% share of touring, records, and merchandise after Brian Jones departure until the time he left?

Does he still participate in royalties from the albums he worked on or did he accept a buyout from the band...if so, how much?

Why didn't he raise hell about not getting credited for Jumpin Jack Flash?

Thank him for his efforts in keeping the history of the band...his memory and detail are amazing considering what a circus of a life he lived.

Did Billy Preston try to go after Mick & Keith for using his bass line as the foundation for Miss You?

Why was Keith's amp on the inside and his on the outside?...95% of bands have the bass amp to the drummers immediate left (most of the time) or right...with the Stones, the guitars are on the inside and the bass and keys on the out.
Considering Keith wanted his amp next to Charlies, how come Bill didn't set up his amp to Charlies right?

Who had more woman...him or Gene Simmons of Kiss?

Does he still get his royalty statements from ABKCO for his writer's share of "In Another Land".
