in 1978 i read an add in the back of "Rolling Stone" selling "rare stones live recordings"....at the time i had no idea about the "bootleg world"...so i mailed in for the catalogue....sent in my order....the anticipation was high...the first batch of lps included "out on bail" from Passaic, New Jersey '78 and included an orange wax '45 bonus disc of "Sweet Little 16"....i was blown away!!!.....and i've been a bootleg "junkie" ever since

"The Stars in the Sky They Never Lie", about 1975, terrible sound, audience recording of the Europe tour 1973 (I suppose Hamburg), great solo of Mick Taylor on "Gimme Shelter", Mick Jagger didn't sing, but shouted only ... terrible

I think mine was called something like "Live er than you'll ever be".

It's the one where they're playing Gimme Shelter and at the beginning Keith says "Let's do it with Echo". I've since found that version on other bootlegs too. The first time I heard it though, OMG! That was a great day!

Wasn't looking too good, but I was feeling real well.

Brussels Affair. I remember getting up at night and listening to MT's YCAGWYW solo over and over again. I was literally shocked that these recordings existed and more that I hadn't heard them after being a fan for 20 years. After that more boots followed and the Stones were back in my live like they were in my early teens.

Hi CindyC...yes indeed..."liver than you'll ever be" is a historic boot...i remember mailing for it in the late 70's...it was on the "lurch" record label...it actually got reviewed in "rolling stone" back then....excellent sound for an audience recording at that time...i think the same taper also recorded "Stoneaged" San Diego '69...i had that boot on swirl vinyl...looked like a giant lollipop....best wishes

The first one I got was "A Tour De Force' which was a mix of Brussels '73 and some of other shows if memory serves. Man, I wore that LP out! After that I got 'Liver Than You'll Ever Be' the world was never the same after that...

I think the first Stones Boot I bought was 2-LP (Eva Records) "Accidents Will Happen". Great tracks (Emotional Rescue, Let It Bleed outtakes). The LP cover artwork is very nice!

I know my first CD Stones boot was "A Beggars Opera".

I bought a few in the early 1970s...Bedspring Symphony remains my favorite...it was from Brussels 1973. Even today, all these years later I was listening to that wild Gimme Shelter version with all that great lead guitar work. Then there was SFM with even wilder guitar.

I think Liv'r Than You'll Ever Be was my first Bootleg. GS was so fantastic in that too. I've always wished a version of that song had been on Get Yer Ya Yas Out

Well I bootlegged Exile from 78 Records back in the 80s.
The greatest album ever and I stole it!

That's OK cos by the time I heard "Shine a light" I realised I was forgiven.

God bless Karma.

Have you ever lent somebody $20 and never seen them again? It was probably worth it.

LIVE AT THE MARQUEE CLUB, with Mick Taylor and a wonderfully drunk sounding Mick Jagger.

My first boot is a vinyl copy of "Garden State 78" on Smilin' Dork records. Still in mint condition and hanging safely in a record frame.

"Midnight Ramblers"CD, Great Dane Records. It's stated on the cover that it's recorded at Olympia Halle, Munich 1973. Later I've read it's from Brussels the same year.
Terrific show - horrible sound.

My first boot was There's No Angel Born In Hell from Swingin' Pig Records. It's historic in a way because it has some of the Altamont concert on side 2. Side 1 was from Nov. 27/28, 69 at Madison Square Garden. Pretty damn good record!smiling smiley

Remember at one point when I ordered a bootleg record, think it was "Bright lights big city" from England. The customs here in Sweden opened the package and told they had to check what it was containing. In my back then paranoid world I thought they were checking for drugs. Later on I found out that was the fact!

Hmmm, the truth is overwhelming isn't it!
