Who, in your opinion, is the 5th Stone?

For many years, the late Ian Stewart was always regarded as the 6th Stone. Years later he passed away and Bill Wyman quit the band. Then we were left with four Stones. So who, in your opinion, would you call the unofficial "5th Stone"? Could it be Darryl? Maybe Chuck Leavell? How about Bobby Keys or even promoter Michael Cohl? As far as I'm concerned, it could be anybody in the Stones' inner circle of friends. Remember, the unofficial "5th Beatle" was everybody from disc jockey Murray the K to Brian Epstein. Or is there no unofficial "5th Stone"? What do you think?smiling smiley

Daryl Jones: bass guitar is a nescessary instrument within the band. Bobby Keys has been within inner circle longer, but sax/horns aren't used on every track. A bass guitar is.

4 Stones since 1993. The thing w/ Stu is, he really WAS officially a Stone, 'til AOL (w/complicity of the others) bounced him from the lineup.

No but seriously, Daryl isn't. It's about being a Stone, not being a necessary musician in the band. He's not at all a Stone.

I'd say the part of the setlist where they basically play the same 5-6 songs at the end of every show is the 5th Stone. It's been around since 1989, longer than Darryl or Chuck!

Darryl Jones. Seriously, why the hell not?

break it down... cut away the excess...
get back to the fundamentals.
I play rock-solid bass.
That's what I love to do."

Since AOL, Stu.

Post Stu?

Since 1989, I'd say Old King Cohl.

He's done more to influence how the band has spent each year than perhaps anyone else, including Mick or Keith. If you're the person on the planet who gets the credit for creating the most successful rock tour in history, and changes the fundamental economics of the game, then you're pretty much in the hall of fall in the builders category and the Stones know what Cohl means to their "success."

If its anyone these days, its probably Michael Cohl - because they're more business than music orientated.

And Cohl acts like he's a band member anyway
