How about some story telling moments at a Stones concert

Wouldn't it be nice to hear some insight into the making of some of the songs as they're ready to play them? I'm sure we have our ideas what they are about but it's never really true until the songwriters tell their story. Most bands do it, the Stones avoid it. It would be great to hear some banter at the show.

Can’t have Keith tell stories—-no one would understand half of what he said, then we’d all be on here arguing about what we thought we heard him say....also, banter might be a bit Vegas?

Nice response about Keith, you may be right. The banter thing is not Vegas. These guys are at the end of their careers, time to enlighten the fans a little.

They would probably end up rehearsing that part more than the songs

'This next one's called Wild Horses. ... I think it was on an album we called Beggars Banquet. ... It happened that Keith was playing a riff in the studio for three days straight and mumbling 'couldn't drag me awaaaaaaay'. ... Some people say it was written about a blonde I left a couple of weeks later. But it was really about Keith and his dealer. ... Ronnie did the lead guitar part, here we go!'
Keith then launches into a different song.

Mick: "And now a song I wrote with our brilliant ex lead guitarist MicK Taylor one time when Keith was too strung out to show up for the recording session"

Keep the banter at its present level. Getting much chattier could disrupt the flow of the show.

Mick gets too chatty about the songs now. He acts like no one is going to recognize them if he doesn't tell you what they are. You can hardly hear what's being said anyway. I'm surprised how insecure he is at this juncture. They didn't use to tell you what they were playing, they just did it, and get on board or get off. They didn't even use to play encores. Boom. They were off and in the limo, doing lines off a groupie's bum by the time the audience stopped stomping their feet and realized they really weren't coming back.

I think Mick just says the song names for an applause line in The latter day shows.i have actually heard him do it on bootlegs going back to the 70s but it was extremely rare.
Mick isn’t exactly the ponderous type,he keeps that show moving along.

What makes me laugh is that when he says “are you having a good time”,how ya doing out there? It’s good to be back in_____ this is our 25th show here”
If you watch the timing of it,he’s really just buying Keith a minute to change guitars.

They don’t even know who or what their songs are about.

“This one we stole from _______.”
“This one we got after sacrificing a chicken.”

A song can have endless meanings it could mean something completely different to you than to the next guy.

Again this why we need the Stones on Sirius XM - play interviews, obscure songs, concert footage from performances throughout the years , fan participation, etc.. 7-24.

Sure it could, but only the song writer knows the true meaning of the lyrics.

Doesn't Keith come in with an intro when Mick gets too chatty, cuts him off grinning smiley

I think talking to an audience is more of an American thing, saw Lionel Richie a few years ago and he talked and talked, he could have sang another half dozen songs for the time he took up chatting. Yeah that's one guy who likes the sound of his own voice.
I see Roger and Pete from the Who spend a lot of time talking abut how much they love touring with each other, it's nice enough but when they keep repeating it becomes a bit pathetic, like when Keith says it's great to be anywhere, tired of that one now Keith, time for something else.

I think it was one of the guitarists for the Go-Gos who said she never wanted to be in a band where the lead singer cried at the exact same point every night in a little intro story.
Springsteen is like this -- he does it very well, but not for me.

A few minutes here and there won't affect the setlist.
