Petition to Stones: Do CAROL for the love of Gawd...

Whatever the problem has been or not with doing Berry covers the past 8 years - it's time. B-stage is preferable. The Stones and CB are a match made in heaven. 8 years of waiting is long enough.

Carol would be best, but I'd settle for Little Queenie or even Sweet Little Sixteen

Yes, Carol!!! Chuck, if you're reading this, sneak Carol into the setlist and we will all love you . . . . . . .well, OK, we won't, but we'll enjoy the song!

"Around And Around" or "You Can't Catch Me" or, hell..."Maybelline," or "No Particular Place To Go," or "Roll Over Bethoven."

And why not Bo Diddley? "Mona" or maybe "Pretty Thing" or "You Don't Love Me."

When the Stones cover this type of material (or "Nighttime Is The Right Time," for that matter) it always feels like a labor of love. I think it really lifts the show and I wish they'd do at least one more a night.

The reaction they got for "Nighttime" at Charlottesville was unbelievable. And that from a crowd featuring a huge number of UVa. undergrads...

Stunningly true...the kids got right into it. Maybe they know it from "Ray" with Jamie Foxx or the old Cosby show??? Or it could just be that such brilliance doesn't need any acquiring of taste. It just hooks ya!

I'll vote for Let It Rock.Playing this song might help the sales of the rarities cd a little bit.Carol would be a nice addition to the set as well.

Carol, Let It Rock, Little Queenie - they're all great. But while it's not a bona fide Chuck Berry song, IORR on this tour is about as Chuck as you can get, especially the long Keith-playing-pretty-much-every-Berry-lick-he-knows ending!

StonesTod,

When you wrote 8 years I thought you were inclusive of saying they hadn't played any Chuck Berry on the Bridges Tour.

All good...let's hear it now.

Carol was played in 97 and 98. So we need Let It Rock.

Except for your ending solo bit, I strongly disagree. While IORR is definitely RnR, I don't find it sounds a bit like CB. But then I am not familiar with his whole catalogue, so I just might have missed something.
For me IORR is much too progressive, in its construction (bars). Maybe it's the fact that the song lyric chorus (just the chorus - the rest is way too cynical, dark and risque) defends RnR music as a musical preference, just like Berry's ode. But the song as a whole (lyric and music), is on another level entirely.

there's no question the Stones think of IORR as a CB-wanna-be song - they actually substituted it for LQ on the b-stage several times on the B2B tour. But, IMO, it's not an adequate substitute.....

Any Chuck Berry numbers would be huge. Did they really play Carol at a soundcheck? Where's the tapers when you need em?
