Silver Train I give it a 7 What do you think? Many say "filler" material at best. Think better & more deserving reality than that. Do you say average at best, or do you agree with me thats its better "solid".
I always thought it sucks bigtime. Definitely the worst track on GOATS HEAD SOUP. I'm happy they don't play it anymore but give the free slot in their setlist to another song.
In a rating system from 1 to 10 (only Stones songs) I give it a 2. Someone said it's a clone of "All down the line". But I don't like that song too much either, though it'd get a 4 at least.

sorry but the real opener is dancing with mister d, great song!!!!
James Lynn asked: What do you mean video of this number??? Where is it located? I'd love to have. What other songs are on all videos etc pre 1980
This was part of the Don Kirshner Rock Concert performance in 1973: Angie, Silver Train and Dancing with Mr. D. The band had a different wardrobe for each number. It must be available on bootleg somewhere.
The following year they did another Don Kirshner show with Till the Next Goodbye, Ain't Too Proud to Beg and It's Only Rock 'n' Roll (the famous sailor suits and soap bubble video).
They told NME at the time that they actually had intentions of playing it regularly on the 1973 European Tour but dropped it because it sounded too much like All Down the Line. In fact I can distinctly remember during their first Manchester show (11th Sept), how, having spent ages tuning up for Sweet Virginia, they decided to abort the idea. Jagger, who had been exchanging good banter with the crowd said that they were also supposed to do Silver Train but that had "bitten the dust" as well.
As for the song itself, I don't mind it, but the live Mick Taylor solo version blows it apart. The slide work on that is stunning.

To me it's not filler but 2 out of 10. They should have left that song to Johnny Winter and ok. "Short and curlies" would have been a good opener GOAT's side 2, a back to the roots song with Stu on piano who also ends this side with playing the 88 on "@#$%&".
i remember j winters version was released 1st & its a good 1 ,,then later on when the stones released GHS ,,their version blew winters 1 away ,,IMO,,taylor's slide 2 heavy
I like the song, but I prefer one of the versions that is on the Invasion Unlimited cd of IORR Outtakes. The second version of Silver Train on that disc is my favorite. I wish they had put that on the album instead of the version that the chose.
