I might do that.

The Hard Rock in Tulsa is close and one of my favorite places to see a show

Saw him last spring when he opened for Steve Miller in Abbotsford just outside Vancouver. He played 1 1/4 hours which I thought was too long for an opening act. Only recognized 3 songs Show Me The Way, Baby I Love Your Way, Do You Feel Like I Do. Glad I got to see him but I don't need to see him again.
I see Jason Bonham is opening, still milking the Zeppelin legacy. He's touring this spring in The Circle, Sammy Hagar's band. Big rumours that Mike Anthony will be rejoining Van Halen this summer.

Only headliner I ever remember walking out on after a couple songs because I couldn't take it..

Course, I was primarily there for the opener, J Geils Band.
My sixteen year old self and buddies just weren't buying into the whole Frampton Comes Alive mania.
Or it could have just been the mushrooms.. hard to say cool smiley

Frampton Comes Alive was MASSIVE when I was in the 7th grade - would have loved to see him back then.
But he didn't do much of anything memorable after that (the follow up studio album was horrible), and I probably wouldn't bother to see him these days.
Unless maybe he reenacted some of the great material from the Sgt. Peppers Movie he co-starred in lol.

Just read a bit of Stones related trivia via wiki:

"At the age of 14, Peter was playing with a band called The Trubeats followed by a band called The Preachers, produced and managed by Bill Wyman of The Rolling Stones".

This is pretty darn good stuff - might have a change of heart and go see him after all!smiling smiley

Thanks z - lots of cool stuff in that old thread!

Funny comment from loog droog:

"Yeah, so what if Peter was the one who joined--and stayed with--the Rolling Stones in 1975 instead of Woody?

Would he now be wearing a wig"?

Mick and Ronnie seemed to have held onto their hair(?) while Keith's has greyed and is struggling. Be honest - admit it when it's gone. Long grey hair is never a good look IMO.

Peter Frampton reveals rare muscular disease is why his next tour will be his last

Peter Frampton, the legendary guitarist whose 1976 record, "Frampton Comes Alive," is still one of the best-selling live albums of all time, has revealed that he will stop touring because of a rare degenerative muscular disease.

The musician announced on Friday that his next tour will be his last and opened up for the first time about his condition in an interview with "CBS This Morning: Saturday" co-host Anthony Mason.

Frampton said he has been furiously recording music since he was diagnosed with inclusion body myositis, a rare and incurable inflammatory condition which causes muscles to weaken slowly.

I was just listening to his work in Humble Pie's "Performance: Rockin The Fillmore" last night at about 4:00 am. I was washing dishes last night after midnight and Humble Pie's version of the song "Hallelujah (I Love Her So)" just popped into my head. So on with the headphones and away we go. Frampton sings the first verse, followed by Steve Marriott and Greg Ridley. Frampton's signature Les Paul guitar work is all over that album. Another amazing tidbit is that the entire album except one song are cover songs.

Hard to believe that Humble Pie was an opening act for these four shows over two days in 1971. An all female band called Fanny also opened. Lee Michaels was the headliner.

I consider this album one of the greatest live albums ever. Add Frampton Comes Alive and you can see why Frampton is a great one.

Peter Frampton Talks Degenerative Muscle Disease Diagnosis, Farewell Tour

“In a year’s time, I might not be able to play,” says Frampton, who was diagnosed with Inclusion-Body Myositis. “I want to go out screaming”

sad to hear this, he doesn't deserve that. I saw him once or twice, including at a Day on the Green in Oakland as the headliner of a British themed Day: Gary Wright (Dreamweaver), Dave Mason, Fleetwood Mac, maybe one more. This was at the height of the Frampton Comes Alive frenzy.

Will always love that album, too many memories, especially of young love in the spring of '76. A pretty blonde girl from one of the all female Catholic schools in Sacramento more or less picked up on me at a high school dance. That was our spring and summer and Baby I Love Your Way was our song. It was interesting because when we neared our end was about at the time that that song began to recede in radio airplay. Wonder whatever happened to you Mary...

Good grief. Joan Baez beat him to it with the "Fare Thee Well" BS. Just what we needed.

So maybe cut him some slack in view of the most recent news. I was never a fan, but I feel very bad for him and admire his attitude.

Frampton Comes Alive is such a weird anomaly in music history, from the guitar player in Humble Pie (themselves an extremely average/third rate band) to this massive household name on the back of a double live album album, then back to almost complete obscurity.

I never understood the level of success he achieved and how he got there.

Frampton actually looks 20 plus years younger than Mick and the rest.

Also have you seen how many dates hes playing this year? I stopped counting but must be 50 plus. That's even with his serious health condition. Very impressive.

THere is no reason to be crabbed about Baez, Frampton or any other classic era artist/group going out on tour. Most play small venues now, don't cost a thousand dollars and turn out to be a lot of fun...

I didn't know about his health issues when I posted it. Glen Campbell did similar but it was well-known that he was ill and that he definitely was on his way out. Baez called her tour the "Fare Thee Well Tour" so it was basically done. I am truly sorry for Frampton's health issues, as I was with Warren Zevon and, the aforementioned Glen Campbell and others who have gone out kicking and screaming and I wish him well.
