Bon Jovi offer Rolling Stones opening slot

Bon Jovi have cheekily offered The Rolling Stones a support slot at their concert opening London's brand new Wembley Stadium, after beating the rock veterans to land the gig.

The selection of US band Bon Jovi over the British Stones to be the first group to play the UK's most prestigious stadium on 11 June next year (06) surprised music industry insiders.

But singer Jon Bon Jovi doesn't mind allowing the Sir Mick Jagger-fronted veterans support his band at the concert.

He says, "Well, it's booked, but if they really want to open the venue, they can go on before us.

"I think that's a great idea."

Bon Jovi were also the final act to play the historic venue prior to its demolition.

I'm sure the Stones have a small chance to get a date earlier, if they really want to. But what for ?
Who will remember that they inaugurated the 2nd Wembley in a few years ?
The legendary Wembley is dead and gone and they must be the band who played there most. Period.

Who still knows that the Stones were the 1st concert at the Stade de France ?

If the Stones aren't doing it, there must be a reason (tour schedule, financial reason, or whatever)

This proves that Jon Bon Jovi is a genuine cowboy who surely knows who to make the headlines.

I think the whole statement is tongue in cheek. However, I honestly don't understand how Bon Jovi are so popular in England (and the rest of Europe)? They're popular in New Jersey and have a dedicated following worldwide, but they definitely couldn't do a North American stadium tour, unless they want to play infront of alot of empty seats. I'm sure they wouldn't sell out alot of major arenas in North America.

I remember loving Bon Jovi when I was 11.I guess it's fine music for kids.That guy's vocals just go on my nerves and sometimes I have a feeling that every of their songs sounds the same.

But actually we shouldn't be mad at Bon Jovi but at the Stones for not being the first. But I still hope the stones will surprise us. Which will mean that Brussels will not be the opening concert for Europe on june 8th.

Agree. Esp. the last three albums. It´s all the same sounding crap of pop rock tunes. But it works in stadiums. Saw them a couple of years ago (Crush Tour I guess) in a stadium and the crowd went nuts singin along all those "WHHHHHOA HOOOOOAH" refrains. The girls like it.

I'd love to see the look on Bon Jovi's face if the Stones opened and then the stadium cleared out before Bon Jovi came on. Those that decided to stay could booo!
