In defense of Emotional Rescue ...

The CD, not the song per se. I listened to this today (I'm listening to the whole catalog to get ready for the Atlanta show). Although it's no masterpiece, it really captures that crazy, late summer 1980 feel. This was the soundtrack to some great times - partying, chasing women, drinking, swimming, the usual stuff one does while listening to the Stones. In fact, I didn't know that Indian Girl was a bad song until I got on the IORR board.

Emotional Rescue is a great album with several rockers that would have been a good template if they were chosen for ABB. I love that album. I can't think of a bad track on it.

Glad to know I'm not the only one. I don't really dislike any of the Stones CD's. I just like some (Girls) more than others.

I actually LIKE it far more now, than I did when it was released.

Then, it seemed, I don't know, sort of detached. It was 'cold'.

Now, the songs sound like Elmo said...a 'soundtrack' to our lives back then, I really enjoy it all...even the tilte track!!

Where the Boys Go gives me the shivers. Nope, doesn't work for me.

But the real crime* of Emotional Rescue is that it didn't live up to Some Girls. Let's face it, the expectations for it were pretty high, one might even say impossible, to meet.
It's not horrible, by any standard. But it doesn't approach SG so it gets tagged with that label.

That's the life of a Stones album.

I really like Emotional Rescue. I didn't used to like "All About You", but know I do and it's has some great lyrics. My favorite Stone's album is always changing, but in the past it has been: B2B, BaB, SF, GHS, VL, EoMS, and Undercover. Some girls is an excellent album, but it's never been my #1. I love to listen to undercover on days when the sky is overcast, there is a light breeze, no work to do, and a threat of rain. Just open the windows and relax...

np: biggest mistake of my life - Mick's: Dancing video...I like the song...but the video? I have no words for it.

I love the stylishly trashy, decadent and chaotic vibe of the "Emotional Rescue" album.

"Where The Boys Go" is the only weak link on what is otherwise a fine gateway into the 1980s.

I love that "No Expectations" and "Send It To Me" come from the same band. That's one aspect of why the Stones are the coolest guys alive.

Elsewhere, I've been reliving the Roseland show three years ago, but I was blessed in being able to go to the Boston Orpheum for the first theatre gig as well.

They did: "JJF," "You Got Me Rockin'" and "All Down The Line." That was just fine. Then, "Brand New Car." Hmmmmm... Then, "Dance." It was at that point that I realized that literally anything was possible.

Overdue recognition for a very cool Stones record. And shame on anyone who doesn't recognize the title track as a masterpiece.

nsaid it before ,to much good songs to be a bad album. The problem with e rescue is that it isnt a real album, just real good left overs from some girls. indian girl is such a sweet and bitter song (people in south america do like it!)about life, revolution, its bloody political! it about being a indian> for me i love the mexican trumpets, likr the good , the bad , and the ug

er, no its not...

thats a meaningless definition anyway...about half of Exile and all but one track on tattoo you are 'leftovers' from previous albums, and they didnt turn out too bad!

Against most of the critics I've always loved the title track - it's a fantastic groove and am realy disappointed they've never attempted it live. Surely it would be suitable candidate to occasionally replace 'Miss You'.

Only Summer Romance is a Some Girls leftover.
All other tracks on ER were recorded after the 78 tour.

Even if "Emotional rescue" isn't a Stones classic it is still FAR better than "Miss you". I wouldn't mind if they'd drop "Miss you" from their setlists (I mean, for ever) and replace it by "Emotional rescue".

Not a bad album, I actually like Indian Girl, my friend's girlfriend who is from South America loves the song. She is not a big fan at all and she mentioned this song to me and I was shocked. The only song I can't bare is Where The Boys Go. Probably my least favorite Stones song ever.

For me, Emotional Rescue is quite a good record, just being compared to its forerunner Some Girls it suffers....Especially i like She´s so cold, Summer Romance, Down In the Hole and the title song! On the other hand, i cant stand Indian Girl, and don´t have to much affection neither for Send it to me nor Let me go!

I think Rescue is way better than Dirty Work.
The problem with Emotional Rescue is that the final mix sounds too slick.
It's made for the hitparade. I think Jagger was already too much in the eighties. Keith wanted the album to be rough. Wich would have been a lot better.

Imagine the album mixed in the way Keith and Chris Kimsey wanted it and Claudine on the album and We Had It All instead of Indian Girl! Wooow you've got yourself another Some Girls!

Maybe this is a nice idea for a deluxe edition re-release, together with outtakes and a dvd including all the videos. Dream on........
