The Libertines, Coldplay and Radiohead are definitely overrated.
The rest of the albums are really great.

I don't have 1 Beatles CD...Paul never got a nickle from me...but you have to admit...Sgt Peppers is a ground breaking album and is not overrated...if it wasn't for this album, us Stones fans might not have Their Satanic Majesties Request!!!!

I don't have Nevermind either but I admit that one ignited a decades worth of bands and is surely worthy just for its influence (and I hate Nirvana)

Joshua Tree is the last great U-2 album (their best) before Fame & Fortune went to their heads

and Bullocks is simply fantastic, sounds great today, and helped rid the charts of bands like Yes, ELP, ELO etc...

The rest I don't have an opinion on so I'll agree - they are over rated.

Just another list for the sake of making a list.

National/international stations - eleven as far as I know (BBC Radios 1-7, 1 Extra, 5Live Sports Extra, Asian Network and the World service)

there are also probably about 50 regional stations

I actually own all 10 of these albums. It's strange to see the Coldplay and Libertines albums on here, because of the fact that they are very new albums, compared to all the others which have had the time to be considered classics and thus to also be considered overrated.

The Coldplay album is only 4 months old and has got some great reviews, as well as real mixed reviews, so it's hard to see it listed so highly on this chart. The Libertines album is only a little over 1 year old and didn't their first album get higher praise in the UK than this one?

I think the value of such lists is simply to get a reaction from people, rather that to suggest an honest reckoning of the rating of an album or artist, in other words to sell subscriptions or increase viewership.

For examply, stay tuned after the late night news to see my list of the top 10 most ridiculous lists. You'll be surprised to see who comes in at number 1 and at who never made the list at all. That's later, right here on IORR. But first, a word from our sponsor.

I think it's different here, where the value of the big four debate or EOMS v. ABB debate is to foster conversation about why we like what we like, rather than to ultimately be conclusive about one album or another. God knows that even though we're all Stones fans here, we'll never reach anything like an overwhelming consensus on the best albums or album is. And I'm not suggesting that we should. In fact, I think we secretly like the fact that these things are always already open to debate. (But in case anyone was wondering the top rated Stones album is . . . but first a word from our sponsor).

You certainly can't overrate Man Gave Names To All The Animals from Slow Train Coming and Wiggle Wiggle from Under the Red Sky.

I like those songs and those albums they came from.
People tend to dislike STC for all the wrong reasons, and I think UTRS
is one of Dylan's better records, despite Don Was' non-production (it would have been
a better ecord without Crosby, Slash, Harrison, etc...)
Problem is whenever Dylan writes and records a song, if it doesn't require
smelling salts to revive you, it's considered a failure. I disagree with that thinking. For example, I always liked Union Sundown from Infidels, but some people dismiss that tune. I took it at face value and have always dug it.
To each his own, I guess. Mind you, if Springsteen had writtem Wiggle Wiggle,
some people would think it's marvelous, show his "playfulness" or that sort of BS.

'Pet Sounds' and 'Never Mind the Bollocks' are two of my top ten albums of all time. I would agree that 'Sgt. Pepper' is overrated musically (though not from a production or cultural importance standpoint), and only because 'Rubber Soul', 'Revolver' and 'Abbey Road' are ALL better Beatles albums.

From my point of view - Oasis is way to overrated... to basically play Beatles alike music.....

I don't. Nirvana, The Beatles, Beach Boys (Only in the case of Pet Sounds) and Sex Pistols (Only in the case of Never Mind The Bollocks) can't be on such a dumb list. I mean come on. Coldplay have made more albums that should be on there (Along with Danish suckfest act Nephew).

7 out of those 10 are indeed heavily overrated.
Pet Sounds, Sgt Pepper & Joshua Tree are not. Brilliant albums.

I never understood why Definitely Maybe has this legendary status while Morning Glory is much much better.
But Oasis is/was a good band.

Besides Beatles, Beach Boys & U2, the bands in that list are overrated, not only the albums.

Definently not Nirvana. AWESOME act there. They're in my top 5 of all-time greatest bands.

Oasis made a couple of good albums and added rock n roll to the leftovers from Seattle after the brilliant Cobain died. But yeah, theyare overrated. The list sucks.

Radiohead overrated, I don't agree. It's one of the most interesting groups today. They have their own sound. I know a lot of people here don't like their music but I can understand their success, Oasis is IMO overrated but if people appreciate their music it's OK.

Beach Boys (Only in

Pet Sounds might be their best album, but don't UNDERrate the other Beach Boys albums. There are some classics in there. I actually think that the oeuvre of the beach boys is underrated. Only because of people only talk about Pet Sounds.

All of their early 60s hits are pure genius. But since Today! they actually made brilliant full albums. Just listen to albums like 'Friends', 'Sunflower', 'Surfs Up', 'Holland', 'Wild Honey', 'Smiley Smile' is actually a good album, 'Today'.

And let's not forget Dennis Wilsons 'Pacific Ocean Blue'. This album might be the best thing the beach boys never recorded. And ofcourse Brians Smile album.
