ABB is up there among the top 3 albums.
Having been listening to it all day long since I got in my hand!
I'd put it this way and I will qoute Keith on this one
"It's still finding things in there"
To me ABB is a really great album and it can be compared to EOMS, SF, BB
and other top albums.

I'd like to rate ABB as no 2 or 3

Been Stoned since 1964 and still am!

Bold statement indeed, but I could see why someone would say that. Definently in the top 6.

I would love to see them making a concert just with the 16 new songs and then leave and give us an encore of 3-4 old songs. This would be super cool.
Since a long time this is also the most dancable album where you can move and groove. Once again I said it already: It might not be the biggest and greatest album, but it's a compilation album which shows the Stones doing the best they can, playing rock and roll and blues

Yes. A great idea indeed (And marvellous post BTW. I agree 100%). But then people would be bitching about the set being too short. There's ALWAYS something wrong. If it ain't enough new songs, it's a setlist that's too short. If the setlist is long enough, it's Ronnie's playing. If it ain't Ron's playing, it's Keith's arthritis. If that ain't it either, it's Mick's yelling instead of singing. If he sings good, it's Darryll's bass-playing not being EXACTLY like Bill Wyman. If that ain't it either, it's the backing musicians' volume level. If they are turned down to a good low volume, it's that the Stones have become an international concern. Yak yak yak. Get a life, and then enjoy it with some Stones on your stereo. grinning smiley

Jumpin Kent Flash
This is why I just wrote it as a wish. I agree also with you that you cannot satisfy people on all levels. I go to the concerts any way. And except for one or two out of about 40-50 I had always the best time in my life.

I think you guys are overrating the merits of ABB simply because it's so much better than anything they've released since 'Tattoo You'. Everyone's entitled to their own opinions, of course, but lets try to be honest here --- it's a terrific album, but try an experiment: Play ABB and then follow it up with "the Big Four" albums, or even 'Some Girls', and it becomes clear. These guys still have it in them to make very good recordings but the days of masterpieces are long gone. 'Exile' was their last A+ album, 'Some Girls' their last A, and now the best we can expect are A minuses. And ABB certainly is that. But lets have a reality check here.

I'll always regard voodoo lounge and a bigger bang as excellent stones albums...when i'm listening to either one, comparing them to past stones glories doesnt enter my mind....whats the point of doing that...it pays to listen in the moment and forget the past

BIGGER BANG IS A GREAT ALBUM..but time will only tell if it will holds up like their others......

1. lib
2. s.fingers
3. beggars
4. some girls
5. aftermath
6. exile
7. rolling stones now
8. bang...?

Can't see how A Bigger Bang can possibly be rated so highly. I wouldn't begin to compare it with the big four - it's more comparable with Steel Wheels, Voodoo Lounge and Bridges To Babylon where it rates just above average.
I wouldn't compare it with any of the seventies albums aside from It's Only Rock 'N' Roll and even then It's Only Rock 'N' Roll best moments are far superior.
Nevertheless A Bigger Bang is much better than i anticipated - i'd give it three out of five.

Interesting. For me, I always try to listen in the past and forget the moment. To each his own...

To me A Bigger Bang is better than Some Girls and Tattoo You. Is wa never a big fan of those. I mean: I AM, but not that much. I fail to see why Some Girls is hailed as one of their absolute best. VL, ABB and OOOH are much better IMO.

It's definately in their BOTTOM 10 albums....
I'm already getting sick of half the album!!

So you see there are so many oppinions and so many voices. What can we do.
ON one hand you would like to have a different set listwith new songs. ON the other hand you would say that the old albums are much better. No wonder why they play Tumbling Dice on every concert since about 73.
I think this album is very adventorous. And listening to the bands coming up today it seems that there is a trend back to straight rock or rock and roll and blues. In five years time YES will be absolute Top again. (If Ian Anderson still can give us his voise) The Rolling Stones always tried to capture this time frame and the spirit. And the freshness of the songs is exactly what is acutally lacking our daily boring lives. Hats off for a band which still around though they have suffered and survived that sex and drugs and rock and roll

No, sorry. Not even close.

I enjoy ABB but it can't hold a candle to the giants.
