First Wembely gig is for Bon Jovi
Posted by: Rockingfan ()

American rockers BON JOVI have fended off competition from music legends THE ROLLING STONES to land themselves the first ever gig at Britain's brand new Wembley Stadium.

The band, who were also the final act to play the historic venue prior to its demolition, are overjoyed by the decision.

And the big event is scheduled for 11 June (06).

Frontman JON BON JOVI says, "Returning to open the new Wembley is a great honour.

"The old stadium was magical and holds a lot of special memories for us.

thats really embarrasing for Britain. AN Us Group opens the new Wembley!
Some British Groups should open it !

Yeah, but The Rolling Stones will be the first ROCK AND ROLL band to play the new Wembley! Bon Jovi are a bunch of no talent posers!

A somewhat unrelated quote:

"George Michael?, a whimp in disguise! Shave and GO HOME!" --Keith Richards in "Rolling Stone", Oct 1988.

I would look at that with less emotion. It's no big deal.
Let them do the benchmark.

old news story as it was debated a week or more ago theyd be playing on that date

Still doesnt mean they'll definitely be the first band to play there as the Stones could conceivably play there the week before.

Its sacrilege if Bon Jovi are the first act to play there...

no TeleK. Its embarrassing for the Stones, because Wembley have indicated they wanted the Stones to play there first

No one else to blame but the band's management for dragging their heels if this is the case as they could have reserved the venue

Wembley Stadium is a business after all, and if another band wish to book the stadium, 9 months in advance they can hardly turn them down

If the Stadium is ready by all means.....
Perhaps they have to jump over the concrete and water

As I said a week ago, have faith!
The Stones can't let us down on this one.

What a shame.

I was planning to go to London to see this gig, It`s a surprise that the Stones won´t be the first act in the stadium.

Shame, shame, shame.

doubt it

there'll be some kind of low key exhibition match to test it out with the formal opening being the FA Cup final on 13 May 2006

where did you hear about England playing Germany? That hasnt been reported in any newspaper I've read

Bon Jovi sucks. Hated them in the 80s when they were big and still hate them now.

Can anyone possibly inform me WHY this trite hair band is still around? Is there some metal revisionism going on? They suck completely and utterly. I grew up in New Jersey(fill in your own joke here) and thought they were a poor mans Springsteen mutated with Winger.

Someone tell them to go away.

This is quiet easy: STONES play 7, 8 and 9 in WEMBLEY!

To Gazza and sater:
Sure, its football in Europe
A few weeks ago I saw a report here on Tv about the new Wembley-stadium, and the reporter said, that The English football Organizisation would like to open this stadium with a friendly-game between England vs. Germany. Lets see what happens!

its news to anyone in the UK...lol...you never know

but the 'official' opening will be the FA Cup final. Its only within the last couple of weeks that the FA have received assurance from the company building the stadium that it'll be ready in time for THAT - otherwise it would have been held in Cardiff for the 6th year in a row.

The stadium will also be used over the Bank Holiday weekend (May 27-29) for the Football league play off finals so the only weekends that it could conceivably be used for anything at all prior to Bon Jovi is May 20-21 (very unlikely) or June 3-4

So, the ONLY logical dates that the Stones could play there and be the first act to play the stadium is that first weekend in June
